The "Six Colleges in Three Days" Tour ended Saturday evening.
The Flickr Set includes photos from this tour as well as the one we did in October.
This tour started at Miami University on Thursday morning (we drove down Wednesday night) with a classroom visit. It didn't go well, as the class they chose for us was only taught on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. However, we were able to fill the time with an admissions interview and time with the Marines in the NROTC program. While talking with the Marines, I realized that whenever I meet a Marine, I am impressed with their confidence, attitude, and leadership qualities. No matter the rank, every Marine seem to have those attributes.
Leaving Miami, we headed to Wilmington College. This school, located between Columbus and Cincinnati, OH, has a cross country coach that has been in that position for 12 years. Very impressive for a Division III school and a major reason why this college has had a successful program. Wilmington College has the largest collection of Hiroshima and Nagasaki documents outside of Japan:

Friday morning found us in Westerville, OH, which is home to Otterbein College. The Admissions building:

A very nice admissions interview, tour, interview with the cross country coach, and lunch.
From Otterbein, we headed northwest to the metropolis that is Ada, OH and home to Ohio Northern University.

A very impressive campus. While we were glad to have a tour, it was not at an opportune time as most students were heading home after completing exams. But the admissions counselor was very gracious with his time, and even scheduled an interview with the Chair of the History Department for us. A really good visit.
Saturday, we were at Bowling Green State University. "Technical issues" precluded us from seeing a presentation, but Admissions did a good job of reviewing the college for us. A tour and lunch with friends capped the visit. It was at this point where I realized that you need to seek out people you know at each college. Students will give you a better "feel" for a college than Admissions could ever hope to provide. Plus, they can tell you the issues that they have had with registration, dorms, the food plan, and more.
After BGSU, we headed west to Defiance College. Because we arrived so late, we toured the campus on our own. But the people we met made us feel welcome and pointed out things we should see.

The interesting thing about Defiance is how new all of the buildings look. It appears that they keep them in top notch condition, remodeling them regularly. And you have to see the back of the library - it is all glass. Unfortunately, it was closed, but I am sure that views from within are very impressive.
740 miles, or so, around the state of Ohio and six colleges later, we were home. This tour, and the one we did in October, were very beneficial for Number One Son. And I really enjoyed the time with him. As they get older, it gets harder to get time with them, and this was an excellent opportunity for us to chat. If you need a list of questions to ask Admissions, Tour Guides, and athletic coaches, I can help. :-)
