If you are an on and off bicycle riding type person (like me) then having a carrier was always a task. This Allen Sports Aluminum Folding 2-bike Rack solves so many problems.
First of all the packaging for the Allen Sports Aluminum Folding 2-bike Rack was incredibly small so I figured it would be cheap, hard to assemble or would not hold a single kids bike let alone two adult bikes.
The entire unit is assembled and folds into a 17"x8"x4" shape. Amazingly compact. The aluminum frame is sturdy and can easily hold the weight of two adult bikes. The other part that kept the weight and size down is the inclusion of the straps for tying the bikes instead of clamps that could break off.
The one con, that so many people have pointed out is the ends on the frame. While they have attempted to protect the car, I can see where over time or with a lack of properly securing the carrier, you could get some wear on your car. Securing the carrier is a key thing. And as I mention below, I think of this carrier as short distance warrior. Not a long term, always on the car, type of carrier. I had no worries when the bottom was against the license plate however. It will take a beating. Rather that then my car. Your car type will make the difference when the ends of the carrier push on your car. Mine luckily was on the license plate.
Getting the bikes on the Allen Sports Aluminum Folding 2-bike Rack was pretty simple. A couple times with the straps and I had the process down. Do not be afraid to practice once or twice so when you get back tired after riding you do not have to think about how you did it that first time.
Otherwise check the sizing closely and the model type. They make a ton of models of this carrier so matching what you need against the type and your car is so important.
Is this for the person that drives all over and bikes constantly, I would say no. Get a true rooftop carrier. But for the weekend rider that does not want a rack always attached this folding design, light weight and ability to handle two bikes makes the Allen Sports Aluminum Folding 2-bike Rack a winner.
