Lumia 930 vs 1020

I shall be in New York next week. Time to decide which tools to prepare. Actually, I don't really have a choice, since my SIM from T-Mobile USA is a micro-SIM. And the Lumia 1020 is my only current phone which does not have a nano-SIM. My 1020 has 64 GB of storage, a camera grip, the best camera. This should be easy, right?
Surprisingly, it isn't. I have grown quite fond of the 930. A brilliant display that is noticeably better than the 1020. Living Images, which the 1020 is not going to get. And then I am still on Developer Preview instead of Lumia Cyan.
I am this close to cutting the micro-SIM down to a nano-SIM. Then again, the Lumia 2520 is my only computer that takes a micro-SIM. And a computer that does not require dysfunctional Wifi is worth a lot.

For a week now I am using both, an iPhone 5s and the 930, and I must say, I really do prefer the 930. Looks like I am going to sell the iPhone, although there are still some features, that do not quit work on the 930.
What I am not so fond of though is the feature "living images" that you are writing about. It might be a user error, but most of the times, there are issues with the living images. These include:
- difference in Lightning between the final image and the video
- stuttering video
- lost focus in either the video or the image...more often the latter...

Yes, and no. You have to understand how this works. Concentrate on the photo. Tap the area that has to be in focus and perfectly lighted. Hit the shutter release. Whatever comes off the sensor in the second before you hit the shutter release gets stored as a video. Depending on whether there is a focus light on or you are using the flash, there will be great differences between the video and the photo. And the video does not lead all the way up to the very moment the photo is taken, but a bit earlier. For me I find it brings back the story much better than a photo alone.
And if you don't like your results, just switch Living Images off in Settings. The photo is the important part.

Blitzgefährlich die Dinger. Und bisher gibt es keinen Adapter, der aus meiner Micro-SIM eine Nano-SIM macht. ;-)
I will go to the US on Saturday and I am having exactly the same problem, multiple devices and only the micro Sim. I will ask for a secondary Sim running the same plan. Hope it will work...

Aber warum gefährlich? Weil sie verkanten können?
So ein Adapter hat neulich eins meiner Handys ruiniert. Verhakt.
Wenn ich beide Handys so sehe: Gäbe es denn eine Kaufempfehlung unter der Prämisse, dass die Kamera schon wichtig ist, aber eben auch nicht nur wichtig? Das Lumia 1020 wird ja derzeit fast schon verramscht (ca. 350€), ist also 150€ günstiger als das 930.
1020: Weißer Elefant. Das Gerät wurde entwickelt, als Nokia noch keinen Einfluss auf Windows Phone hatte. Die haben diese Monsterkamera ohne Grafikprozessor in Software unterstützt. Der totale Wahnsinn. Jetzt kriegen sie das mit Living Images nicht mehr hin. Einfach zu viele Pixel in der Pipe.
930 und 1520 sind weitgehend gleich. Ich finde die Kamera super. 930 etwas besser, aber das liegt meiner Ansicht nach an Cyan vs Black. 1520 kann mehr: SDHC und Glance etwa. Außerdem ersetzt es ein kleines Tablet. 1520 ist mittlerweile von 699 runter auf 449 (Pixmania). Für 930 zahlt man noch den vollen Preis.
Wenn es richtig dunkel wird, kann 1020 mehr. Xenon-Blitz, bessere Low Light Performance. Dafür haben 930 und 1020 vier Mikros. Die können den Sound gezielt vor dem Gerät aufzeichnen. Und beim 930 sogar Dolby Digital Surround.
Fazit: Kamera ist bei allen super. Entscheiden nach Geldbeuteln und anderen Features.
If it was longer than 90 days ago that you have used your T-Mobile US SIM card it is now deactivated anyhow (That's what they told me last time I was in NY and my SIM from the previous trip wasn't working anymore). So don't let yourself be held back by the SIM form factor.
@Volker: Danke für den Überblick. Für mich heißt es dann doch etwas warten auf das 930 (Timo gibt mir im Oktober wieder ein Neues) und bis dahin macht das 920 auch was es soll. Vielleicht kommt dann ja auch ein 930 mit 64GB.
@Volker: editier mal deinen letzten Kommentar, da steht immer 530 statt 930, oder ist das für 99€ wirklich so super ... :-)

mit der DP hab ich mit meinem 1020 Probleme, sobald die RAW Funktion bei der Kamera an ist. 4/5 Fotos werden dann nicht gespeichert, weil er (mit offenem Linsenschutz) beim Speichern hängen bleibt. Es hilft nur der Neustart. Wenn ich nur JPEG einstelle, geht alles ohne Probleme. Hoffentlich gibt es bald die finale Version in DE.
Interessant, wie weist man einer deaktivierten T-Mobile-SIM eine neue Nummer zu?
Servicenummer anrufen, alte Telefonnummer durchgehen. Können die nicht finden. Dann SIM-Nummer durchgehen. Das Zauberwort heisst "Release The SIM". Dann neuen Prepaid-Kontrakt aufsetzen, SIM aktivieren, neue Nummer bekommen. Neuer Nummer Guthaben zuweisen.
