A few days ago, Alan Lepofsky asked me a question on Twitter.

I responded generally, but since it happens to be Alan's birthday today (Happy Birthday!), I thought I'd go to a little effort and make a birthday vlog of sorts showing exactly how this would work. The video is only 3 minutes long and demonstrates show some interesting new features in Export to CSV for Midas LSX 5.11. You can check out the exact field specifications at mini-lessons.info/MIDAS20.

Best viewed in HD. Closed captions have been provided for following in English or improved auto-translation.

And, yes, I know this is self-promotional. I am a crass capitalist.

I asked for this long ago (not from you Ben) and found that there is so much behind the scenes I am basically scared to use the DominoBlog migration. I know people had success with the other template. But then again I never used the moden DominoBlog design as mine is a Steve Castledine special

Fair enough. Fwiw, the reason I show the bit where you let it export all the fields first is to show that you could do this with any Notes-based blog, including yours. Once you find out what fields are already there and map them to WordPress types, even if you need to use a formula to massage the values or join a couple of fields together, you can make your specialized field specs.

That said, there still may be a lot behind the scenes in a long term blog. I'm hoping some people come asking so I can play with it. The benefit of the CSV intermediary step is that you can export to CSV over and over, tweaking as often as you like until you get what you need.

Oh I agree and wish someone had the time. But then again the number of deep links to my blog would be a pain to create redirects for if I moved it.
