HERE on Android
by Volker Weber
One of my favorite Windows Phone apps is making its way into the Android world. It's currently available in the Samsung app store for Galaxy phones. And it started to become available in beta for other Android phones. As it stats it runs just fine on the giant Lenovo Yoga Tab 2 Pro.
Here gives you full voice assisted turn-by-turn navigation with downloadable maps for offline use. If you haven't done yet, give it a try. Highly recommended.

Its freely available from the Here Website as beta for every phone with at least Android 4. Must be sideloaded. Works very fine. Has outperformed Navigon within minutes.
I have installed the beta on my several years old Motorola Defy+, which is a really slow smartphone by today's standards, and it works like a charm. It's by far the best navigation software I have ever seen on Android.
Did you try yet to put in on the Passport?
Not yet. But I should.
I tried it on a Samsung Galaxy S4 driving from Frankfurt to Pforzheim Thursday evening. Today I consider it no match for Google Maps Navigation when it comes to traffic jam avoidance.
It hysterically exaggerates traffic jams (35 minutes delay where Google correctly predicts 5 minutes) and I have not found a way to select alternate routes - although it pretends to offer them.
Also I find the color choices light red for state roads and dark red for autobahns a bit weird.
