Let's start the clock: How long does it take PwC to live without Notes?

Wasn't PwC one of IBM's largest Notes/Domino customers?

Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand merged in 1998 to form PwC. Coopers & Lybrand was customer #1 for Lotus Notes. Today they are a big Microsoft shop since they live in Microsoft Office with a lot of backend services around Office. And they are still using Notes in many territories. And I seriously doubt they are going to put client data into the Google cloud.

For once I disagree with your question!

The clock won't start for years, and anyway it's irrelevant whether PwC can manage without Notes or not. As you suggest, it is almost doubtless that PwC's Notes environment will continue to run or not. Of course, it will take them years to migrate or move the apps elsewhere.

What IS relevant, at least to IBM, is whether PwC have taken the decision not to maintain their Passport Advantage Agreement. My guess is that those business units who have gone Google will have cancelled their PA licenses.

The chances are there are enough Notes and Domino experts on-site who will be able to provide support should the excrement hit the oscillator - or they could have a go at getting someone from global services for a day - either way, IBM is losing revenue, whether PwC are using Notes or not.

Stephen, if your business depends on it, you continue to license a product.

Peter, welches Erlebnis mit dem Office 365 Support sollte ich schildern?

Volker Weber, 2014-10-29

My guess?

Mail 2-3 years
Apps fully? At least 8-10

LOL!

@Volker ("I seriously doubt they [PwC] are going to put client data into the Google cloud"):
The US CIO is painless to some degree. I heard him talk at the Gartner IT Symposium in Barcelona yesterday in Google's session and he said something like (not verbally): "we are assuming that no system is secure, so we might as well use Google's cloud." So in America and Australia only, they are going to do it.
The German and European side of PwC is more concerned and not willing to put data in the cloud, as you said. So PwC will end up with a mix.
Unfortunately, most commentators (including Googlers at the Gartner event) spoke of a "worldwide" deployment, which is not the case. But for some Americans, everything that spans more than their own country is "worldwide", as they explained.

To be more precise, tt was Mike Burwell, PwC’s Vice Chairman for Transformation, who spoke at the Gartner event.
