Ello is different

The most compelling reason to be on Ello is original content. At the same time it is the biggest challenge for those used to re-sharing "viral" media.
Ello is no Facebook. If you like Facebook, you would be disappointed. But if you don't, this is your place. Beautiful, ad-free. Now with iOS app. Tomorrow with Android and Windows (!). You think there is nothing going on? I will gladly compare my streams (below) with your postings. You may be bored. But maybe, you are boring. ;-)

Bonus Points for Windows app!
Is it right to say that Ello has an emphasis on visual content? If so, shouldn't it rather be compared to Instagram?
It does not really compare to anything. Because, you are not the product. And you can post anything you want.
Instagram has tiny photos compared to Ello.
What I didn't get yet is the difference between Friends and Noise.
You are not alone. You just get two feeds. One defaults to single column the other to multiple condensed. Put everything you don't want to miss in Friends, the rest in Noise.
I was glad to see the iOS app come out. I downloaded it right away. I'm more likely to check out Ello the way I use Instagram and Twitter - occasionally, when I have a few minutes, from my phone. Maybe now I'll get more involved there. Though my history with Instagram and Twitter would argue against that being very likely. For a variety of reasons, Facebook fits my life better at this point.
Once the Android app is available, I will definitely dive in deeper. I love the philosophy in both ethics and design.
Rob, I see a lot of people I know on Facebook. But it's a bad and abusive business. So I don't engage and leave to take a shower. People know where to find me. ;-)
