iPad stalling

I suspect Apple wasn't just caught off guard by the iPad's success, but was led to believe that the iPad represented the future of computing. Many thought the iPad would outshine the iPhone.
Very interesting analysis of the current state of the iPad/tablet market. What I see are two things:
- Bigger phones have changed my usage profile. More iPhone, less iPad.
- Enterprises are pushing back on iPad. You can't have three devices: notebook, tablet, phone.
In both cases, iPads are playing a less important role than I once thought. They either have to replace a notebook — this is where Surface gets it right — or they become a luxury.
In private households, iPads can often replace notebooks or even desktop computers. That is especially true where content creation was never the major reason to get a PC. It can replace a TV, a book reader, a web browser, a mail client, a typewriter. iPad's ease of use let people switch from full PCs to iPads without ever looking back. If that is your use case, make sure you back up to the cloud, and maybe, offload most storage to the cloud.

Yup, agree. Enter 6 plus, exit iPad. Then again, my daughter is very happy with it, she she has my old 4S which looks tiny compared to the 6 plus.
I did look at surface at the airport. Great looking responsive hardware, great keyboard too - perhaps even better than the new ultra flat Mac book. I tried that briefly but It'd take quite some while to getting used to with the key-travel missing largely.
Using my iPad all the time - wouldn't want a smaller form factor. Reading, Writing (lyrics mostly) - and most importantly: Music (making) - the iPad is an incredible workhorse for music creation and has absolutely incredible good software for that.
Yes, I understand that this is only a niche market, but for musicians, the iPad rocks!

Which should worry Apple, assuming the claim that this will drive future buying decisions is correct.
Chromebooks are perfect for shared machines. They are basically stateless and only cache data for faster access.
For me the world has changed from PC (home use) and Laptop (on-the-go) to Laptop for home use and iPad for on-the-go.
I love my MacBook and I prefer to use it on different places at home. Didn't have a workstation/monitor for years.
My iPad is the thing I have with me almost all the time (as long I carry a bag / backpack). Reading news while on the train etc. It's so light it doesn't make much difference if I have it in my bag or not. It's immediatly available for use. A Laptop would make a difference in weight but also comfort while using on-the-go.
Before I had the MacBook (about a year now) I used the iPad as my only computer. It worked but had some limitations. Having a MacBook now, I see no use for a bigger iPad for me. I also have no use for the iPad Mini. It's nice and small but too small for the amount of reading and similar stuff I do on a regular base.
