Jan. 21, 2015, was an interesting day

by Volker Weber

Brad Smith, chief legal officer at Microsoft, posts an interesting article about what is going on in this connected world. It shows, that there are no easy answers. Read the whole piece and think about it.

He is talking about values but which values does he refer to, what does Microsoft stand for?

I can't see anything in Microsoft's DNA which makes them a trustworthy advocat for privacy or freedom of speech or social issues around the world.

For me this posting boils down to "what's the best business case in a complex world?".

Legit for them but so what?

Ah, The Register. Always ready to ruffle some feathers.

Thank you for the link, Volker.
Lucius, maybe read again or conplete this time. This is not about a business case this is about being in business in a new world with many forces pulling. What Microsoft tries to do there is to balance the approach. It's a tricky approach that could fail eventually but as a customer I appreciate that over simply giving into anything your home country government wants.
The only step further is encryption that the company itself cannot decrypt like Apple does with iMessage.
