iLuv SmartShaker bluetooth alarm review

The iLuv SmartShaker is perfect for heavy sleepers or not waking up someone else in the room with early alarms.  Set up using BlueTooth and their app, the SmartShaker uses vibration, a tone or both to wake you from under your pillow.

Coming in at 1 ounce and 5 inches across by 1.5 inches high, the iLuv SmartShaker fits easily under or inside your pillow as an alternative way to wake up. The app itself is easy to work with and stores up to 10 alarms that are then synched to the SmartShaker.

I charged the iLuv SmartShaker fully (with no indicator lights you have to relay on the beeps it makes or use the battery indicator built into the app). From there I easily got over a weeks worth of usage with no real drop in battery life. I only have one alarm set a day so the number of alarms and how long they go will definitely have an effect.  They say you can get up to a month from a single charge.

I had trouble on Android getting theiLuv SmartShaker to originally connect via BlueTooth. It kept showing as an audio device. Eventually, after deleting it a couple times I had success. The iOS test worked right the firs attempt. Setup also didn;t seem to keep the name change I assigned to the device. It kept switching back. It is really no big deal but worried me about if the alarms were actually being sent over to the SmartSkaher too.

All the tests worked fine. I ran it with an without sound or vibration. So basically three tests. Just vibration, vibration and sound and just sound. All went off on time and the snooze button worked fine. Note that the snooze is configurable at a global level. Meaning the same snooze duration applies to all alarms. Not different for each one. That may be a nice future enhancement or advanced mode.

One thing I did not like about the iLuv SmartShaker was that I had to turn it off and back on to be ready for the next alarm. If I was someone that liked to set multiple alarms to wake up, I would need to find the tiny switch, turn it off and back on. Instead of just the snooze. I know some heave sleepers that do this setting alarms every fifteen minutes with different tones or sayings letting them know how late they are.

It was easy to add and update alarms but holding the snooze button to make it synch. The app itself was easy enough to understand. I would be curious if you can have more than one assigned to the app to allow you to corolla nd set a few of them. This would be great for a parent setting a few kids alarms.

One tip --> I started placing the iLuv SmartShaker in the pillow case under the pillow. This stops you accidentally pushed it off the end or side of the bed. I could easily see that happening.  Overall I cover some more in the video but I will be putting this to use.
