Sametime 9.0.1 Arrives - Sort Of

Like the sun breaking through the clouds on a gorgeous May holiday weekend, the IBM site has just published a document announcing Sametime 9.0.1 with a release date of May 3.

There’s no documentation or even system requirements out there yet but here are some delicious part numbers from the IBM download site to get your teeth into.

I’m not a big fan of installing without documentation but as soon as it appears I’ll be documenting both a clean install and an upgrade process.  If you want any advice on how to upgrade your existing environment feel free to email me.

  1. One of my big “to do’s” for this year is to upgrade our Sametime environment. Looking forward to reading your upgrade notes! 😀

  2. “Optimized support for Citrix XenApp on Microsoft™ Windows™ Server 2012 and Windows desktops” - hopefully that includes xenDesktop 7.x support

  3. “Optimized support for Citrix XenApp on Microsoft™ Windows™ Server 2012 and Windows desktops”

    - Hopefully that includes support for xenDesktop 7.x

  4. I have no idea whether it matters to people (it may not), but it is striking that the first thing listed in the What’s New is the removal of a feature: “Directories: Starting in V9.0.1, the native IBM Domino® Directory is not supported for user management.”

I’d think you would at least lead with a positive, but perhaps it is the most important thing to let people know.

    • That’s not really a surprise Ben. Since 9 the default configuration has been to use LDAP instead of native Domino (you can use Domino as LDAP). You could workaround this with instant messaging and Proxy but it was a workaround, the standard configuration using the SSC always required LDAP if you want to use other Sametime features. So what we’re seeing is that they no longer support the workaround from a few years’ ago. The first thing I do when migrating people from 8.5.2 or earlier to 9 is move them to an LDAP configuration using the same Domino directories they already had in place.

  5. Another thing you lose is Linux support for clients. Another “gotchya” change is the MCU scripts directory changing locations - now it’s “/opt/mcu/mcms/Scripts” and in general most of the directories have been moved into “/opt/mcu”
