The best iPhone review ever written

by Volker Weber

Matthew Panzarino has written quite a piece:

Apple is mid-stride in building out physical manifestations of the iPhone’s core abilities. If the Apple hardware ecosystem is a body then the iPhone is the brain, the Apple Watch is the hand and the AirPods are the mouth. Your memory and cognition, the way you interact with the physical world and how you speak to it. ... There will come a day when we will view poking and prodding at an iPhone’s screen as just an archaic interaction method as the punch card. And that’s where Apple is skating.

That's a famous quote from legendary ice hockey player Wayne Gretzky: "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been."

I recommend you read Matthew's review in full. It's the best I have seen in a long time. I recommend it even if your conviction demands you despise Apple.

Mouth? Ears, right?

Oliver Gassner, 2016-09-13

Not out of despisal, more out of "lack of budget"... :)

Yeah it's nice, but I don't want to have to charge my earplugs. I'm really tired of charging every damn little gizmo here. What's next?

I root for the "xkcd Phone 4" (look it up, it's great).

Of the three, the iPhone will be least necessary 10 years from now. It will migrate to the the headset, the watch and the cloud...maybe not even the watch.

Dan Sickles, 2016-09-14

Oliver, if someone talks to you, they use their mouth and you use your ears. So, when this Apple "body" talks to your rates via the Pods, the Pods are indeed the mouth. Makes sense?

Ragnar Schierholz, 2016-09-14

Sorry, but for me its just a phone, a smartwatch and some earphones.

This is one of the most aburd reviews ever written.

Roland, I would not have expected otherwise.

Volker Weber, 2016-09-14

The Canadian in me feels obligated to point out it was actually Wayne's father Walter Gretzky that came up with the phrase. :-)

But the point still stands, that Apple is good at focusing on the future.

Alan Lepofsky, 2016-09-14

Dont misunderstand me: Apple has very good products which i really like (and use). But, i cannot see the glory "big picture" for the future. Wireless headsets or the apple watch are not really innovative for me. They interact together, yes, but they dont enhance the user experience in a special, unique kind like a MS hololense does. Excellent product design, very good usability, and a execptional long lifecyle are much more the strength of the apple ecosystem.

Just only my opinion.

Roland Dressler, 2016-09-14

I have yet to see anybody walking down the road wearing a MS Hololense. While it is a fascinating concept the type of technology it is trying to convey is not practical for everyday usage. Maybe when they have shrunk that tech in to contact lenses will it become viable but not till then.

When you look at the big picture you need to look at everything that is out there not just one platform. Apple may have the mouth and ears covered in the airpods ( they have a microphone so they are ears also ) and the hand covered in the watch but somebody needs to be working on whatever the screen will be in the future and that could well be the HoloLense.
