Three days :: Three Launches
by Volker Weber
Travelling to New York for a day sounds way more glamorous than it is. Airport procedures, immigration queues, being treated like cattle by security, sitting for hours on the plane. There are upsides: great hotels, the buzz of a wonderful city, meeting people. But if you don't have to squeeze yourself into your hands-on videos ("Hey, whats up guys, ... here with the latest wares") you can sit back on your desk with a much better working environment and watch the webcast. For me this happens three times this week:
- BlackBerry announces the DTEK60 today. Normally they would have sent out a bunch of those devices before the event and then invited a few select people to their local office to show them and hand over a sample. Not this time. They are doing a press webcast where they want to talk about their enterprise software. Yes, you got that right, they are introducing a new smartphone but do not want you to talk about it but instead talk about their software. Yes, I know that is ridiculous, but that's the plan.
- Tomorrow Microsoft will talk about things you can do with Windows 10. Consensus is that they present a Surface iMac. OK, it's not called an iMac, but it's an all-in-one desktop computer. It has to have touch and pen, and to make that work it will need to swivel flat and towards you. I am sure that the Surface team will have created a wonderful design for that. That is a public launch event and you will be able to watch it here: microsoft.com/octoberevent. It is scheduled for 10am EDT which is 16:00 CEST.
- On Thursday Apple will present new Macs. Rumour has it there will be a 13" MacBook as well as 13" and 15" MacBooks Pros. The event is on the Apple Campus which has a small auditorium that holds about 250 people. There will a select few journalists there, but they will all inconvenience themselves just because they are the select few. :-) This event is also live streamed around the globe. You can watch it here: apple.com/apple-events/october-2016/. It is scheduled for 10am PDT which is 19:00 CEST.
Bonus event: you can buy an Apple Watch Nike on Friday. The Airpods are also supposed to be available at the end of October, but November starts next Tuesday and Apple has never launched a device on a Monday.

What a "launch" for such a great device like DTEK 60.
Phewww! Five tweets instead of two, great marketing from BlackBerry!
Embarrassing.
