Yolocaust
by Volker Weber
Yolocaust is a project by Israeli satirist and author Shahak Shapira that explores our commemorative culture by combining selfies from the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin with footage from Nazi extermination camps. The selfies were found on Facebook, Instagram, Tinder and Grinder. Comments, hashtags and "Likes" that were posted with the selfies are also included.

I can't understand such behaviour.
However, I also strongly agree with the decision made in the first place to let people approach the memorial as they like.
Just imagine there were guards asking visitors to behave "appropriately" - this would turn the memorial into a dead place. Honest commemoration must come by heart and can't be stipulated. Otherwise it becomes worthless.
This is probably the best way to give these people an opportunity to take a second look at their pictures with a different perspective. They illustrate that the people are more focused on themselves than aware of where they were and what it represents. Hopefully, this (or some friend or family member) can get them to see this and ideally get them to think differently in the future. I suspect (hope) that this is a youth thing that people will outgrow. I appreciate that in the FAQ, they indicate that they will remove pics if the owner requests it. Hopefully, some of these people will gain some perspective as a result of this effort.
Here is a (german) Podcast with the guy:

Interesting, but im not sure wether i would buy a ticket for one on his shows.
I have been to the Memorial twice so far, on my first visit I was simply stunned by the shear size of it. on the second visit i had a feeling of constriction. but thats just me.
People who behave in such a ignorant way about their surrounding are just that: Ignorants.
