IBM Remote Connect

It has been a difficult decision but I have come to the conclusion not to travel to IBM Connect in San Francisco. Thank you IBM for inviting me. I hope I will be able to access presentation files and follow the event from here. Let's call it a "Remote Connect".

I have been using Watson Workspace for a few months now and closely watched its slow progress. We all know where Notes, Connections or Sametime are in their respective life cycles. Whatever surprises IBM has in store for us at Connect, I think I will be able to put them into context, even from a remote vantage point.

Also canceled - what with the political situation in the States at the moment and my unsure commitment to Domino I'll sit this year out. Next year I should have a better grasp of where my journey is going. Will miss it though 🙁

I would be VERY surprised if IBM made another attempt with Connect.

If you look at what they did with Amplify 2017 (https://www-01.ibm.com/software/events/amplify/) - instead of being it's own show in Miami, it's at the MGM at the same time InterConnect is at MB - this seems like a model that could include other conferences i.e. Connect.

Yes, there are many options. I just think that Connect as a separate conference no longer flies. IBM Collaboration has become too weak to draw its own audience. The attempts to change the recipe a few times since dropping the Lotusphere brand were unsuccessful. The original published target for Connect 2017 was 4k delegates, now they'd be lucky to get 1k partners and customers.

Going forward there are many options. With the focus on Watson it probably could live within one of the other events.
