Stream what you hear to your Sonos
by Volker Weber
Stream What You Hear (SWYH) is a Windows application to broadcast the sound of your computer (ie: 'what you hear') on an UPnP/DLNA device such as TVs, amps, network receivers, game consoles, etc...
And that includes Sonos players.

Is streaming to groups of Sonos Plays possible?
As you can see, SWYH does not understand stereo pairs or subs. Sonos has to figure out what to do with it, and is pretty smart about it. Only when Sonos has published their API you will see better interfaces.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a big deal. In the past I've been able to use DLNA to push music stored on my hard drive and accessed via JRiver Media Center, but not any type of stream such as Internet radio or the audio from a ball game.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll try it, well not today, it's Valentine's and my computer is a no fly zone, so I'll try it tomorrow.
This is why I am pushing Sonos so hard. Once we get the proper SDK, built can build really useful things. Sonos wants every sound in your home to come out of a Sonos player. The SDK will enable just that.
Yes, please, keep pushing Volker! I'll continue to do the same with my friends at Sonos.
I've been using this with my Sonos for a while. It works quite well but there is a delay, so it's no good for audio which accompanies video as it is out of sync. This is not yet a replacement for directly connected PC audio but perhaps that will change...
same experience here.
Problem is the ~2 sec latency.
It doesn't matter for Music only, but for watching films, it hurts when video and audio is out of sync. Yes, one can adjust Audio sync, but that's not a hit and run configuration.
This helps you understand why Sonos does not provide this capability out of the box.
That's a nice solution for a lot of things apart from (as mentioned earlier) video. What I like the most is the fact, that there IS someone who has as many SONOS products in his setup as I always wanted - but was rejected by the government a.k.a. "wife". Looking forward for what will happen to the SONOS SDK.

I'd like to see some AirPlay functionality without hacks like AirSonos or connecting via Airport Express / line-in.
Well, that is for Apple to solve. AirPlay requires a piece of hardware, that you buy from Apple. Apple does not license Airplay in software.
AirSonos is a reverse engineering hack. Nobody will build this into their hardware unless they want to be sued by Apple.
Why do I have to explain this shit again and again?
Because that is what good mothers do ;-)
