BlackBerry KEYone :: A short update

KEYone continues to be my go-to Android phone, against strong competition. The simple reason is convenience. It's so easy to pick up from flat surface with one hand, it does not seem to need a case, and I am never confused which side is up. It does have one design flaw, that it shares with the DTEKs and the PRIV: the on button is on the wrong side. I often press the convenience key on the right side. Since it also turns on with the fingerprint reader, it's not really an issue though.
BlackBerry Mobile has swapped my device and my outstanding issues have been resolved. I think they will skip the May update and go straight to the 05-June Android security patch. Internally they have been testing a new release for a while. I am sure there are lots of other fixes as well. New devices have teething problems and I am looking forward to that release.

"the on button is on the wrong side" :-) - of course it is only the "wrong" side, because you (we) are so used to having our at the upper right side. Somebody switching to this phone as a regular user would likely be reconditioned in a rather short time. Most people don't switch phones nearly as often as the good mother...
True. But it's hard to reach. Like the volume buttons on the iPhone.
Regarding the button position: For me no position is optimal and each layout has it's pros and cons.
I'm switching between two phones with different button positions, a Samsung Galaxy (volume buttons left, power button right) and a BlackBerry PRIV (power button left, volume buttons right). As a personal preference I use a book-style case with both phones, thus the buttons on the left side of a phone are always covered by the case.
The PRIV positioning allows easy volume control, but makes switching off the screen via power button a bit harder. The Samsung positioning often makes me changing the volume 'through' the case side (not too hard, but sometimes not intuitive), but pressing the power button is quick.
As vowe said, this is not a big issue for me too and I have no clear favorite. Except a case for the phone.
Wie ist die Tastatur im Vergleich zum Passport?
Hab schon einige Blackberry Smartphones gehabt und bei keinem war eine Schutzhülle notwendig. Oder ich hatte oft Glück.
Nur das Display vom Passport ist mir vor kurzem gesprungen. Muss aber auch sagen das es davor unzählige Treffer und "Das ist jetzt bestimmt hinüber" Rufe überlebt hat.
Wie hoch sind die Chancen, dass das Key One ein Update auf Android O bekommt?

Das KEYone läuft mit 7.1.1 und ist damit unter den 0,5%. Mehr als 50% der aktiven Geräte laufen mit 5.x und 6.x. Und nur ganz wenige kriegen monatliche Updates wie die BlackBerrys,
Wird es O kriegen? Keine Ahnung. Und es ist auch ziemlich unwichtig. <die Security Updates sind wichtig.
Benjamin, viel kleiner, aber gut. Und vor allem, eine Zeile mehr.
Volker, wenn ich ein Gerät für 600 EUR kaufe, dann ist es mir absolut nicht egal, ob es ein Update für die nächste große OS-Version bekommen wird, egal welche Plattform. Bei Android kann ich mir ja nur sicher sein, wenn ich mir ein Pixel kaufe. Es hätte sein können, dass hier endlich ein anderer Hersteller nachzieht. Motorola war hier eine zeitlang ganz gut. Letztlich ist es auch egal, mich hat es nur interessiert, ob Blackberry hier etwas verspricht bezüglich OS-Updates. Ich hab mir selbst erst kürzlich was rotes gekauft :-)
Wenn man Updates will, kauft man ein iPhone.
Wenn ich ein wenig drüber nachdenke, eigentlich benutze ich den On-Button so gut wie nie. Ich nehme das Gerät in die Hand, also entweder vom Tisch auf oder aus der Hosentasche - eine Bewegung, die das Gerät erkennt und mit dem Einschalten des Bildschirms beantwortet. Da brauche ich dann den Fingerabdruck zum Entsperren - und über die Position des Sensors dafür ist hier ja schon in einem anderen Beitrag diskutiert worden...
Man braucht ihn zum AUSschalten.
Wie gern würde ich dieses Gerät einmal unverbindlich testen. Ja, ich weiß dass man dafür das Rückgaberecht missbrauchen kann, aber das ist nicht mein MO.
