Windows 10 Crash Using Domino Designer – There is a Fix!

While I thought I had been thorough prior to writing my blog post yesterday about Domino Designer crashing Windows 10 after the Creators update, I’d missed the fine print.  This is to clarify what I missed and what you need to do as there is a fix available from Microsoft.  As it turns out, the post from Daniel was in fact correct.

What I missed, or rather, what I checked, was to make sure that my Windows updates were current.  I actually double checked by clicking to download any new updates, and Windows told me I was current when in fact I wasn’t.  Martin and his team at IBM in Dublin did some checking and then suggested I check again this morning.

As Gary points out, you have to manually download and install the correct KB inside v1703.

As I write this post I see that Microsoft has now made another version available, but note the highlight in the image below.  You need to look for KB4022716 as noted above.  And you need to install it manually.

Thanks go out to the IBM team for jumping on this and clarifying what is required to address this problem.  Happy coding everyone.  🙂

About

I am an IT professional with over 20 years of experience. For much of that time I have worked with IBM Lotus Notes and Domino, helping organizations take full advantage of the tool for building workflow collaboration solutions. I have ITIL certification and a background in project management as well. Recently I have invested in how mobile devices may be used to extend business applications outside the office, and have also been learning how to add social components to traditional business applications. Away from work, I have three daughters and recently celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary with my wife in Hawaii. I coach hockey, cycle, and love growing garlic and then finding new ways to use it. I added a section of herbs to my garden last year and was very happy with the result. I ride my bike each year with my wife in the Ride to Conquer Cancer to raise money for research in childhood cancers, particularly brain tumours. Our youngest daughter lost her battle with a brain tumour in 2008 and through this ride we hope to help find a way to prevent other families from experiencing what we went through and continue to live with. If I have any spare time, I like to travel, so you may see the odd photo from our family adventures here too.

I tried a manual install but it said it was not for my system, Win 10 Creators 64bit…

Happy to report that if you missed KB4022716 and installed KB4025342, it is also solved!

  3. Howard Greenberg says:

Lars, how do you know that the fix that was in 4022716 is also in 4025342?

  4. Gary Baker says:

The update that this article describes (KB4022716) is no longer available and has been replaced by a newer update. It is recommended that you install the most current cumulative update, KB4025342.

2017-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4025342) is installed via automatic updates (installed on my US Win10-x64 Creators on 7/11/2017)
