Windows on Snapdragon

Microsoft is having another go at Windows on competing architectures. The older ones might remember that Windows NT was designed to work in IA-32, MIPS, DEC Alpha, PowerPC and later Itanium. Windows RT ran on NVidia chips. Now Microsoft is working with Qualcomm. Before the year is out there will be machines running on the Snapdragon 835 chipset that is also powering premium Android smartphones. Always connected, instant on, more than 20 hours on a single charge, that all sounds pretty impressive. Third time's a charm.

"Special" versions of software for this new architecture again? If so, MS just created another dead end fork.
As Qualcomms single-thread-performance is very bad it will be interesting how Windows-Updates will perform. If they haven't made a change to the process, the device will be too busy to do anything but update.

looking forward to a Windows-based Chromebook Alternative with the 845 they announced...
On Windows Weekly (#547) they had Don McGuire from Qualcomm as a guest. And he seemed very confident that this is a platform that's there to stay. Talking about several future waves of devices. He also said the first wave is very PC like, because the manufactures use Intel form factors and put ARM processors in them. But he thinks the form factors will be more creative down the road, taking advantage of the low power consumption. This might get interesting.
