Tra i partecipanti a Think 2018 interessati alle soluzioni ICS, cioè relative alla collaborazione, è serpeggiato un discreto entusiasmo per la prima volta dopo vari anni.
Gli annunci e le dimostrazioni reali relativi a Notes/Domino 10 hanno riportato il livello di interesse, e direi eccitazione, a valori non visti da un po’. Anziché limitarsi alle solite slide sulla roadmap, quest’anno sono stati fatti vedere dal vivo i prodotti.
Ad esempio noi stessi abbiamo potuto mettere le mani sul client Notes per iPad, cosa mai accaduta nelle precedenti edizioni di Lotusphere/Connect.
Si è parlato di marketing specifico per ICS, cosa mai accaduta prima; ci saranno campagne specifiche su Notes e Domino 10. Questa cosa ha piacevolmente colpito (lieve eufemismo) tutti i partecipanti, in quanto IBM negli ultimi anni, in pratica da sempre, non ha mai fatto nulla del genere.
La netta sensazione che ho percepito a Las Vegas era di entusiasmo ed eccitazione di fronte alle prospettive per le soluzioni ICS. C’è da dire che HCL ha fatto un gran lavoro per far sì che questo succedesse.
Abbiamo avuto tutti la sensazione di essere all’inizio di un nuovo percorso, una nuova strada che, partendo da un successo durato ormai 20 anni, ci porterà verso un futuro dove le soluzioni ICS saranno sempre più importanti ed eccitanti da usare.
Non sono il solo ad avere avuto questa impressione, anche altri IBM Champion hanno condiviso il loro pensiero in termini simili

The community is buzzing with an energy and excitement I have never seen before and I like it. At the ICS day on Wednesday morning the message was reiterated that Connections pink/ next is coming and being worked on, Watson workspace will be THE place for on demand collaboration and now with the added bonus of zoom integration for on demand meetings too – It really will be a game changer. Domino 10 is coming later this year and a new client and sametime will follow but the emphasis is on making the Domino server backend the priority for the first phase of the 10 release.
Marketing is something that has always been a bit of a joke inside the ICS community as there hasn’t been any – until now. Yup, marketing … it is happening and there will be campaigns around Domino and ICS. The new team are a bunch of really cool and enthusiastic people.
The ICS brand is a small fish in the big IBM pond, and although the other brands have their own communities none are as passionate and collaborative as ours. The IBM Champions program has really helped in cementing the ICS community as the one other brands are looking to. There is no other community that is so passionate and positive,

IBM is trying to resurrect it’s Collaboration Solutions brand, There have been some notable changes in leadership in the past 18 months, Jeff Schick, Ronnie Maffa, Inhi Cho Suh & Ed Brill have all moved on. The difference this has made is almost palpable. I’m not going to look in the rearview mirror and blame any one of those people for doing their job or not, but the change in attitude is amazing.
Part of this “New Life” is in some way attributable to the deal done with development and services company HCL, which has seen large numbers of committed but downtrodden IBMers leave Big Blue for the same but new jobs in HCL. Having met with several of them this past week, I couldn’t help but comment on how amazing it was to see them smiling again. In the past, they have worn the ‘all too familiar’ grimace of someone toeing the Big Blue Line.
The Resurrection is upon us! ICS are all singing from the same hymn sheet and all at the same time. No more singing in the round or different songs.
ICS seems to be finally be working together and all working toward a common goal.

The speed at which HCL are developing Domino and Notes (and there’s much much more to come before v10 releases in Q4) is a big change from where we’ve been in the past few years.

My discussions about the HCL deal were interesting, the ICS teams strongly believe this is going to be the best thing yet.
Sono uno degli ultimi Champion di questa categoria, insignito nel 18, ma conosco Domino da “sempre” ed ho attraversato mille sorrisi con frasetta “ma tu lavori ancora con Domino?” dopo che nel 2001 ci abbiamo costruito sopra la Digiway.
Ci credevo e ci credo per la qualità del prodotto. Ora sono convinto che Hcl sia un bene per tutti noi.
Il prodotto scritto da Iris. Lanciato da Lotus. Freezerato da IBM è pronto per ripartire con HCL! E lo farà.
Il programma #Domino2025 è intelligente e HCL ha già giocato bene le prime carte. Certo occorre il nostro supporto, entusiasta!!!
