New system wide feature: Display a QR code

by Volker Weber

Sketch

Sometimes I need the URL for a specific post on my iPhone, but I am looking at the post in a desktop browser. The easiest way to get this URL cross platform is to display a QR code, which the iPhone can read right from the camera app. Previously I had this QR code in the sidebar but I found that too busy. Well, I needed it back and you can also get it from this entry in the link bar under each post.

Enjoy.

Nice alternative if privacy matters: Duckduckgo. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=qr+vowe.net&t=h_&ia=answer

It is not the most elegant solution but privacy does matter.

Nice idea. Just used it and will use it in future. Thanks!

Irgendwie scheint es nicht zu klappen - lande auf ddg - bekomme aber keinen QR-Code sondern nur eine Auflistung von Seiten

Looks like the DuckDuckGo solution is too confusing. I am reverting to the Google Graph API solution that I first implemented. It does not add tracking to my site any more than the "google+" link does.

When privacy matters, wäre eine einfache Javascript-Lösung die Wahl.

On my desktop browsers I just use PushBullet, which immediately beams the current URL from the browser to the iPhone app. Works like a charm and can also be used to quickly send some text or image to the phone.

Well, security and privacy often require some level of trade-off with seamless use. In this case, using a cross-device clipboard (like Apple's Universal Clipboard) or cross-device browser support (like Safari's and Chrome's tab list) come to mind.

Of course, this only works nicely within the reflective eco-system...
