Mail Probes are one of the most common ways that an IBM Domino Administrator can monitor their mail activity and health. A mailbox containing an excessive amount of mail messages can negatively impact the overall mail performance, slowing down the flow of mail between critical routes. Leveraging mail probes allows administrators to proactively test multiple components of their mail environment to ensure maximum performance. Last, but certainly not least, mail probes are able to detect if someone makes a change to server to server connection documents that inadvertently break mail flow.

VitalSigns aims to bring simplicity to Notes Mail Probes and Mail Monitoring. To ensure mail flow between critical routes, VitalSigns runs tests to determine if mail can successfully get from Server A to Server B.  This is accomplished by creating a mail probe to send a test message to Server A and then analyzing Server B to see if it has arrived.

Administrators can easily create, edit, or delete mail probes to track activities and gather statistics. To create a new mail probe, administrators simply have to assign a name, configure scan settings and then define a message source and destination. After a mail probe has been configured, it can be edited or deleted by an administrator at any time.Notes mail probe

After your Notes Mail Probes have been configured and are successfully running, you can analyze critical metrics for each active mail probe such as delivery threshold, retry interval and echo service. From the dashboard view below, administrators can quickly identify the health of their mail flows and act on potential issues.
