Just a note to myself as I spent many hours in finding out why my clients did not get an IPv6 address from my pfSense router/firewall:

If you are using a Netgear switch (I am using here a Netgear GS116E), you need to make sure that the option

“Block Unknown Multicast Address” is set to DISABLED.

If you have that option enabled the IPv6 router advertisement (RA) packets seem to be filtered out. For me this was not very obvious …

I wasted literally DAYS because of this – I had IPV6 up an running in minutes on wifi, but on ethernet it was simply refusing – all my machines could not see the RA at all. I went through every single troubleshooting procedure to make sure everything was properly configured with no luck, including going through the switch settings to find something relevant before completely discarding it as a possible source of the issue.
Googling “GS116E ipv6” brought me here straight away… no, not obvious at all!!!
