New hope to run Notes Admin/Designer on Linux & Mac?

I have received a very interesting e-mail today.

As a regular Ubuntu user I got frustrated of not being able to use Notes/Admin/Designer any longer since 9.0.1 Fix Pack 4 or at least not being able to upgrade to the latest releases. The stand-alone Notes client is no longer supported on Linux since 9.0.1 Feature Pack 8 (January 2017).

Mac users can still use a native Notes 10 client but no Admin/Designer unless running a virtual layer of course.

I still use Notes/Admin/Designer 9.0.1 FP4 on Ubuntu using Domin4Wine. And it is exactly Domino4Wine that might give some new hope to upgrade to Notes 10 On Ubuntu. Thanks to Prominic!

This is the e-mail:

Updates coming to Domino4Wine! Run Domino Designer and Administrator NATIVELY on Mac and Linux
Updates to Domino4Wine are coming!
We’ve been busy working on improving Domino4Wine!

The Prominic team has been working on upgrading Domino4Wine to reflect the changes happening with Domino this past year. It’s an actively ongoing project, and we wanted to send out a quick update to let you know you what we’ve been working on.

Check out all the improvements!

1. We have tested on Mac and Linux (Specifically CentOS and Ubuntu)with CrossOver Version 18.5 and have successfully installed both R9 FP 10 with Hotfix 315 in both Single user and Multiuser Installations.

Initial Tests with R10 with or without FP 2 show it is likely to work with proper installation, though we are testing further.

2. We are working on automating the setup of the steps necessary to run a Linux VM with either Notes/Designer/Admin R9 FP10 or R10.0.1 with just a few steps requiring manual intervention due to the current licensing rules.

3. We are configuring an automated UI testing system so that we can start ‘regression testing’ new releases of Notes/Designer/Admin and CrossOver against changes. Currently, we are utilizing Sikulix, version 1.1 .4. We are using Sikulix for the GUI Testing and we are using Jenkins to manage the tasks.

This is where you come in.
We are ready for new beta testers!

We need your help to isolate the bugs, build test cases and submit to our GitHub, so that we can work with HCL and CrossOver to resolve them. With your help, we can get this done much quicker, to deliver you, and the rest of Domino4Wine users the improvements you’ve been wanting.

The project can be found HERE: https://github.com/prominic/domino4wine-Vagrant-SikuliX/issues

We all, as Notes Domino users, have the power to impact the future of its development, to get the features that we want, to fix the issues that need improvement.

You can go ahead and vote on already submitted requests for Mac and Linux integration in Notes/Domino on the Domino IdeaJam website, as well as submit new ones HERE:

6) If you haven’t yet, please follow Domino4Wine on Twitter and LinkedIn, as the number of followers helps us justify the number of interested users to HCL for future development.

So, although I would very much prefer real native support without additional software I find this EXCELLENT news! It is yet another proof a the renewed drive around Notes.
