iOS 13 wasn't done :: And it still is not

by Volker Weber

iOS 13 release calendar:

13.0.0 19-SEP-2019
13.1.0 24-SEP-2019
13.1.1 27-SEP-2019
13.1.2 30-SEP-2019
13.1.3 15-OCT-2019
13.2.0 28-OCT-2019
13.2.1 30-OCT-2019
13.2.2 07-NOV-2019

That is eight releases in 48 days, averaging one release every single week, which is faster than any previous beta test.

Apple needs to change their process.

Yes, I am unhappy to the point that I would be looking at the competitor to see if they have a better grasp of software development execution.

I’m really pissed off with the quantity of bugs I’ve encountered in iOS 13

Agile software development and bugfix rollout. ;-)

Karsten Lehmann, 2019-11-08

And 13.3 is already in Beta.

Oliver Stör, 2019-11-08

No bugs here. All fine on iPhone.

Jochen Kattoll, 2019-11-08

Same here. Except the multitasking bug. Maybe that’s the bug they are fixing now?

Johannes Matzke, 2019-11-08

Several issues on my iPad since last update. Even bugs which had been fixed in a previous iOS 13 release.

Rene Werth, 2019-11-08

Luckily wasn't affected by most of the reported bugs.
But some of our users were.

I find it weird that many of theses bugs very randomly happen to just some people without any ramarkable pattern. Makes the process of bugfixing during beta phase more difficult.

Only thing was the bad / slow mail sync ... which vastly improved since 13.2

If only I knew that Dark Mode would have so many side effects

Thomas Mendorf, 2019-11-08

@Karsten, big bang release once every year is exactly not agile. This is then what you get: A hot mess and unhappy users.

Frank Quednau, 2019-11-10

iPhone 8 has worked out pretty OK but dark mode on iPad Pro 10 seems to have caught some third-party app developers off guard so I had to turn that off almost immediately. Just turned it back on and it appears that apps can now be opted out (not sure if that's Apple or the developer deciding) because eBay and AutoTrader for example don't do dark mode.

The only glaring issue for me is that AutoTrader listings are unreadable in the app because of some issue with margins. For weeks the app has crammed all the text into a 2inch wide strip in the middle of the screen. Have to think that's more on the developer because they used some kind of CSS hack that no longer works (maybe there's display logic that has decided that part of the screen is an iPhone in portrait instead of an iPad in landscape).

Day to day though not a bad experience personally, however IT shops with lots of devices to support may want to adopt less aggressive upgrade policies going forward.

I was happy when Apple announced that the AppleTV will support multiple users. Turns out that is only half true as the iCloud and Game Center accounts are not affected. While this may work for Media, it doesn't work with Games as they sync to the services mentioned.

Finally, if one goes all the way and logs in with another iCloud account to make it work, the AppleTV stops acting as a home hub and has to be re-authorized manually. To make it even worse, the whole HomeKit automation stops working even if a iPad is configured as a secondary hub.

I'm not happy, so to say.
