HCL Docs 201, some essential info for newbie to be able to install it on Linux

As you know , HCL Connections have a complementary sw named Docs, that is able to add the feature to view/edit "office" files inside Connections directly into the Browser.

During last years I've installed several of this, some complete, some limited to the Viewer/Converter part and what I like to write is the official docs it's a total mess and for a newbie it's not useful and full of wrong advice.

I 'vent checked all the pages during last weeks but some of the parameter documented are from 1.0.6 and now not supported. and refused by the installer.

As example if you like to install a Converter/viewer environment fowllowing  what is written here  will not be easy because it miss the right name of the packages that needs to be extracted and where to find it.

The basic steps needs to be followed are install the component as described in that page using IBM Installation Manager,

Add the GUI

  1. Install X11 in your Conversion server. For CentOS/RHEL, run yum groupinstall -y "X Window System".
  2. Install Gnome in your Conversion server. For CentOS/RHEL, run yum groupinstall -y "GNOME Desktop".

and this libraries

yum install -y ImageMagick glibc.i686 gtk2.i686 libSM.i686. For SuSE, run zypper install -y ImageMagick glibc.i686 gtk2.i686 libSM.i686.

Also the other settings related to sudo users could be ok

Now the correct converter package 201 (not the DocsConversion_Linux_2.0.0.zip named in the docs)  could be find unzipping the docs201 install  in this folder

dosc201/IBMConnectionsDocs-repo/native

inside native this package are available

  • DocsApp_2.0.1.zip
  • DocsConversion_2.0.1.zip
  • DocsLCExtension_2.0.1.zip
  • Viewer_2.0.1.zip
  • DocsProxyFilter_2.0.1.zip
  • ViewerLCCustomizeApp_2.0.1.zip

and are the installer of the single docs201 component

Now , after the creation of the related WebSphere Clusters , unzip the

  • DocsConversion_2.0.1.zip
then , inside the resulted folder enter in the "installer" folder, the cfg.properties needs to be filled with the environment parameters and to be copied into cfg.node.properties.

Now launching the install.sh script , you should be able to install the Converter and complete your viewer environment.
In case you have to install all the Docs components , this needs to be repeated for the other components too.

Note: during my setup I was always lucky with Installation manager setup, but some of my friends/colleague were not.. so if you are familiar with terminal, considering  to avoid the Installation Manager could be a good advice too.
