I am new to Lotus, but now I have been dumped (from a great height) with a lotus Domino 4.6 server that has expired certificates and at the moment no way of renewing them to the user ID files. However I have found that the server ID files are present and the certificate is valid until 2023. How would I be able to login using these ID files? As when I try to switch user I get a Illegal use of ID file message.

Please don’t laugh, think of me a poor sod with bugger all experience of lotus having to get this bloody thing working. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi.  If you have the certifier ID, which is usually cert.id, and password, you can re-certify the user IDs.  It's been awhile since I've worked in the 4.6 interface, so unfortunately I can't give you a step by step on the recert process.  Feel free to get in touch with me, though, if you want further assistance.

Hey no problem. But there was no admin client in R4 :-)
Which ID files need to be fixed is the 1st question.
The cert ID or the server ID expired?
User IDs is not as much of a problem as you might think.

I found the Admin Console Wink

Anyway, I need to renew the Server ID file, there are about 4 servers and each one has the certificate expired. Any ideas how I can renew this and find out which id file is used by what?  There are a few cert.id files and server.id files kickign about in different directories. The whole thing is a mess to be honest and I cant seem to make any sense of it Sad
