Friday flash back - Do you have Message Tracking enabled?
Thu, Mar 26th 2015 8:03p   Adam Osborne
From November 2012.. Do you have Message Tracking enabled? If you do then you should know the Mail Tracking Store database must have a Full Text Index in order for Message Tracking to work properly, the mtstore.nsf database is indexed only by the MTC task and just as we saw with the Updater in the last blog this indexing process creates extensive fragmentation over time. Have you ever checked the size of the Full Text Index (mtstore.ft) associated with this database? Take a minute or two to

From ConnectED all I can see is focus on the Basic Client... not much else... Let me know your thoughts ?

Something completely different - Little Wing

Here is a recording of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" by my brother Grant. He's playing a Martin OM21 Special sitting on his lounge with a Apogee MiC 96k connected to a Macbook Pro. It is a single take. I hope you like it. Little Wing

Part 2 - How to set up Database Maintenance Tool Optimisation in 3 steps. The Results
Thu, Feb 26th 2015 4:37a   Adam Osborne
As promised here we are checking back after our schedule has run to look at the results of our 3 step DBMT Optimisation setup which we stepped through in our previous post here: http://ab1osborne.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/how-to-set-up-database-maintenance-tool.html The DBMT stats show it kicked off at our scheduled time, only 10 databases had more than 10% freespace and therefore only these required compacting according to the settings we chose on the control panel - this is a massive 92% savin

How to set up Database Maintenance Tool (DBMT) Optimisation 1-2-3
Tue, Feb 24th 2015 12:17a   Adam Osborne
Follow these 3 steps below (or just 2 if you already have Defrag.NSF) and you will have: Server I/O = Less Compacting = Less DBIID Changes = Less Fragmentation = Less Backup requirements = Less Backup times = Less Server restart time when TXN Log or Consistency Checking required = Less View Rebuild times = Less To-Do List items for the Administrator = Less Interested? Read On..... Step 1. Install Defrag.NSF - it's a Notes database, easy as pie! (If you already have Defrag.NSF go directly to

You'll find it in Defrag.NSF. Simple, easy to use and super efficient. See more at How to make DBMT 50%+ more efficient and DBMT compact optimization in action.

Tue, Feb 3rd 2015 6:47p   Adam Osborne
Hi All, Can anyone from ConnectED provide an update on SSL and Domino and point me to the 'latest and greatest' way to implement it ? It's been a moving target and I'm sort of lost with what the best approach is (please don't tell me to move to Exchange.. not happening) Thanks

I wonder why IBM will not allow people to journal mail to their OWN email archiving solutions from their cloud ?
Tue, Feb 3rd 2015 5:19p   Adam Osborne
We've asked for this feature multiple times and been told no, yet other Venders like Microsoft do. Surely customers should have a choice. If you're shopping for a cloud solution make sure you asked the question, 'Can I journal email to my OWN archiving solution' ? It is YOUR data ...isn't it ? You should be allowed to have a copy of it.

OWA 2013 vs iNotes 9 - two products, one clear winner
Thu, Dec 18th 2014 4:48p   Adam Osborne
iNotes 9 runs absolute rings around OWA 2013. It amazes me how limited it is. I feel very sorry for those that get downgraded to it. Just email is so 1990's...

Enabling DAOS, LZ1 and Document Compression in two clicks - The Details
Thu, Dec 11th 2014 9:45p   Adam Osborne
As outlined in my previous post, we've added a super time saving way to make sure databases are DAOS enabled. Here are the details: In this example we'll target a couple of databases that make decent candidates for DAOS participation, like most Document Libraries these are full of attachments, so these types of databases make great "low hanging fruit" for DAOS. We can see these database are currently not enabled for DAOS participation. Tick a box on Defrag.NSF's "Advanced" tab, enter
