VitalSigns

notes1This week was the 32nd anniversary of the start of Lotus Notes. What is amazing is the context. In December 1984 the IBM PC was only 3 years old. No GUI. No real networking.  I remember my first job with a Lotus Business partner we had to bring network cards that plugged into the parallel port plus our own hub and cables whenever we wanted to do a demo.

Decades later, this same core gets another major innovation (for those not in this space, we are shipping a new web UI for Notes email “Verse on Premises”). The history in-between has had amazing moments. But more than three decades on, this spec is still at its core relevant, catalyzing.

Mon, Nov 6th 2017 4:06p   Alan Forbes
IBM’s recent announcement of their plans to invest in Notes Domino 10 and Beyond is great news for Domino advocates like myself. IBM plans to continue innovation in the collaboration space by investing in the Domino product family – Domino, Notes, Sametime and Verse. The recent commitment to Domino into 2018 and beyond has been made possible due to a recent partnership between IBM and HCL Technologies. “To show IBM’s level of commitment to stakeholders, the company is entering into a st

Mitigating Risk on Your Way to the Cloud
Tue, Oct 3rd 2017 4:47p   Alan Forbes
Mitigating Risk on Your Way to the Cloud Many organizations are under the impression that they can eliminate security risks by hosting their data and IT infrastructures in the cloud. Unfortunately, they’re wrong. Properly mitigating the risks of migrating to the cloud requires two things: intensive planning combined with through knowledge of product specific obstacles. There are also many 3rd party tools available that can simplify your transition to the cloud. It’s impossible to eliminate

IBM Domino Full Stack Monitoring

Why Organizations Need Full Stack Monitoring for IBM Domino The IBM Domino Platform is known for its robust capacity of email and collaboration solutions. Like many platforms it has been through some fairly steep changes over the years with the focus lately on a more engaging way of collaborating. The platform that delivers email, collaboration, applications and social can be quite complex in its architecture. The performance of the platform highly depends on how it has evolved in individua

Social Connections 11 Recap
Tue, Jun 13th 2017 5:31p   Alan Forbes
Engage is the New Social The overall theme at Social Connections this year was engagement, and more specifically employee engagement. Although the conference was called Social Connections, there seemed to be a clear push to replace the nomenclature from ‘social’ to ‘engage’. The original ideology of getting your employees to be social has worked very well in the past, but today employees need to be more than just social. The most successful employees are social, but they are also highly

Pulling Data from Notes Views Using Standard Web APIs

Free Domino Data with Web APIs Application Program Interfaces (APIs) are widely used in our everyday lives, whether you are aware of it or not. For example, while viewing the website of the new restaurant you see its location on an embedded Google map; you have just interacted with the Google Maps API. Companies leverage APIs all the time as an authoritative source to provide clean, timely and accurate data. The ability to provide clean and accurate data makes APIs a valuable asset for developer
