How a New Generation of Software Is Helping Colleagues Work Together
Alan Lepofsky

On May 31st I'll be presenting at Enterprise.Next - "The Future of ITSM" Social Media & Cloud Computing. The event is in Ottawa Ontario and is hosted by itSMF Canada. itSMF is a forum for Information Technology professionals to explore methods of continually improving the delivery of IT services.  I'm looking forward to speaking to an audience that is responsible for the delivery of technology to clients, as these are the people who are really in the trenches.

Session Title: How a New Generation of Software Is Helping Colleagues Work Together

Abstract: If you are you still using email and file attachments to try and get work done, it's time to evolve your business toolkit. Learn how social networking and collaboration tools such as microblogging, wikis, and profiles are helping transform the way employees share information and help their organizations succeed.

I'll post my slides when I'm done.

A Guide to the New Actions and Objects of the Digital Workplace
Thu, Apr 17th 2014 6:40a   Alan Lepofsky
In the Constellation Research report, Segmenting Audiences By Digital Proficiency, we introduced the idea of categorising people by a combination of their comfort and skill level with technology instead of by age. One of the things that contributes to a person's knowledge and comfort is an understanding of the current terminology used in the digital workplace, in this case specifically social networking. Not long ago the main tools people used at work for communication were email and chat, [read] Keywords: connections ibm email enterprise facebook integration networking twitter

Tue, Apr 8th 2014 11:20a   Alan Lepofsky
Last year my colleague Ray Wang introduced The Five Generations of Digital Workers. Expanding upon this excellent work, I've just published a new report: Segmenting Audiences By Digital Proficiency: Using Knowledge and Comfort with Technology as a Framework for Digital Transformation The proliferation of digital technology is causing businesses to go through one of the largest shifts since the Industrial Revolution. This digital transformation forces organizations to rethink everything abo [read] Keywords: collaboration

Purposeful Collaboration with Microsoft Yammer and Dynamics
Thu, Mar 20th 2014 11:20a   Alan Lepofsky
Below is the recording of my session at the SharePoint Conference 2014 that explains how collaboration should not be a stand-alone process but rather integrated with the business tools people use to get their jobs done. Towards the end I interview Steve Novoselac, Technology Director at Trek Bikes about their use of collaboration tools. [read] Keywords: collaboration microsoft sharepoint

Microsoft Announces Office Graph - Connecting People And Content
Mon, Mar 3rd 2014 9:40a   Alan Lepofsky
Today at the SharePoint Conference 2014 (#SPC14) Microsoft unveiled Office Graph, a new architecture layer that maps the connections between people and content across the Office 365 family of products. Office Graph is not something people will see directly, instead it is a "behind the scenes layer" that will be used by developers to create user experiences that surface the information in various ways. Think of it more like the electrical wiring running through your house. Facebook Lookback Provides A Personal Touch To Social Networking
Thu, Feb 6th 2014 9:40a   Alan Lepofsky
A few years ago I started to get frustrated with the way the market (vendors, press, analysts) was focusing primarily on how "social" could help teams and communities. While of course there are great benefits to this, I believe it leaves out the most important target, the individual. That's why I started my "Don't forget the ME in social MEdia" campaign. [slideshare id=13401488&doc=socialfatiguee2confboston2012-120621005415-phpapp02] I strongly believe that in order for p [read] Keywords: application enterprise facebook networking

Tue, Feb 4th 2014 3:00a   Alan Lepofsky
Last week at IBM's annual conference IBM Connect they announced a new project code-named IBM Mail Next. Via a series of screenshots, IBM showed their vision of a new way for people to interact with their email, tasks and social networks. By leveraging IBM’s extensive analytics capabilities, Mail Next aims to help people focus on what the most important things they have to work on are, not just what’s new at the top of their inboxes. While the initial reaction of attendees [read] Keywords: collaboration connections domino ibm inotes lotus notes notes client sametime xpages applications blackberry development email enterprise google integration microsoft mobile networking widgets

Below are my top 10 tweets from Jan 2014 based on combined number of replies, favourites and retweets. I weighted each of those three actions equally. I believe personal analytics such as this can help people know which topics they should spend more time working on (are popular with your audience) and which don't resonate as well. Of course, a single snapshot does not provide all the details you need, but each data point helps. Jan 2014 Top Tweets !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElemen [read] Keywords: twitter widget widgets

Innovation Powered By Collaboration Software
Wed, Jan 22nd 2014 7:10p   Alan Lepofsky
Both innovation and improvement are important concepts, but unfortunately the two terms are often used interchangeably. This presentation discusses these differences and shows how collaboration software can be used through all the stage of the innovation process. This public deck is a subset of my longer talk about innovation. For more details, please contact me. Innovation Powered By Collaboration from Alan Lepofsky [read] Keywords: collaboration
