Render View Column Color in a XPage
Mon, Jul 22nd 2013 6:14a   Arne Menting
In Notes you can easily change the color of columns (background and text) with a list of integers in a hidden column. In Xpages it is not as easy, you need to either translate the colors to hex, oder into style classed that do the work for you. I found an interesting article on how to transform the information into styles, you can find it here, but i wanted to have the flexibility to change the notes view and have the xpage change automatically according to it, too. So i came up with this lit [read] Keywords: ldd lotus notes script library xpages properties

Enabling Cross-Server Database Access for XPages
Wed, Jul 3rd 2013 6:17a   Arne Menting
Did you ever encounter a "NotesException: Database has not been opened yet" when trying to open a database on another server from an XPage? This would be something like this: var db = sessionAsSigner.getDatabase("server","some/database.nsf"); return db.getView("someView"); Here is the solution: As the XPage is like an Agent on the executing server, you need to put this server into the "Trusted Servers" field in the "Security" tab of the target server's "Server Document", as onl [read] Keywords: agent xpages database security server

Fancy Dojo Widget: A Simple Image with Lazy-Loading Tooltip Content
Fri, May 17th 2013 11:14a   Arne Menting
Today i needed an image displaying some data from a webservice. Only catch is, the data should only be loaded, when the tip is displayed - so i had to code my own custom widget for Dojo 1.6 (.1). Here it is for you to use it in your projects, if you like: Code: dojo.provide("dijit.ImageTooltipWidget"); dojo.require("dijit._Widget"); dojo.require("dijit._Templated"); dojo.declare("dijit.ImageTooltipWidget", [dijit._Widget,dijit._Templated],{ [read] Keywords: dojo widget

Dojo Data Grid in XPages - Lessons Learned
Wed, May 15th 2013 6:17a   Arne Menting
Here are some things i came across when implementing a dojo data grid (the default dojo 1.6.1 in domino 8.5.3) on my xpage projects: include the correct css ("/.ibmxspres/dojoroot/dojox/grid/resources/Grid.css" will work)if you use an expensive web service, use the store to get the itema and add them to the store manually, this way client side rendering and sorting will be faster (here is how you can do it)do not use "auto" columns - it can only work if you are not using a store in the gri [read] Keywords: domino xpages css dojo

Useful Tool: Domino Error Codes (Freeware)
Tue, May 7th 2013 9:11a   Arne Menting
I just found this handy tool, that helped me translate a notes error box into a lotus script error code. Pretty nice and saves some debugging for the right code. The help is not helpful in this context anyways. Domino Error Codes (Freeware) Would be nice to get it in other languages like german too, but well... pretty helpful as it is. Open Attachments In A XPage In Client Application
Fri, Nov 9th 2012 10:12a   Arne Menting
I recently stumbled about how to open a file attachment like a picture, if you are in a xpage in client application - the url is a completely different one than that in a browser, and it is pretty much undocumented. In my case, i even had to access an attachment in a differten database, what adds another layer of complexity. So in addition to the infos in the post "Attachment URLs in XPages", i discovered the complete, correct format how to do it. http(s)://127.0.0.1:[theRandomXPINCPort]/xsp/ [read] Keywords: domino notes notes client xpages application blogger database server

Open the Users Mail Database
Tue, Jul 24th 2012 6:18a   Arne Menting
To open the mail database of the current user, just use the Method "OpenMail" in a NotesDatabase Object. It feels a bit awkward at first, but actually the object will update itself to contain the database immediately. Easy! Dim db as New NotesDatabase("","") Call db.OpenMail Dim doc as NotesDocument 'now just prepare am email and open it in the client, ready to be sent. Set doc=db.CreateDocument() Call doc.ReplaceItemValue("Form","Memo") Call doc.ReplaceItemValue("SendTo","John.Do [read] Keywords: noteslotus blogger database email

How To Search your Workspace for Code
Wed, Jul 18th 2012 6:12a   Arne Menting
This is very useful for those code changes that just might span over different design elements. Just hit the "Search" Menu entry that is available in designer and enter the types of design elements that you want to search. Please notice that the standard setting will be quit slow, so here are some (source code) extensions you will want to include when developing xpages and notes. You will want to exclude everything that is binary, because you wont find anything in it. *.xsp XPages and Custom C [read] Keywords: agent dxl lotus notes script library xpages blogger css eclipse java server workspace

Converting Times to your Servertime in a Nutshell
Wed, Jul 11th 2012 1:11p   Arne Menting
A quick method to convert UTC DateTime to the current servers local time. I use this for a rest webservice that accepts UTC/GMT timestamps from an iPhone to make sure all times in the database are in the correct timezone, and still accurate. This code will go into the "input translation" section triggered by the "compute with form". timestring := month+"/"+day+"/"+year+" "+hour+":"+minute+":"+seconds+" GMT"; time := @TextToTime(timestring); result := @TextToTime(@TimeToTextInZon [read] Keywords: blogger database iphone

XPages Options for Development in a Team
Mon, Jul 2nd 2012 9:15a   Arne Menting
There are some (new?) interesting options you should know about if you develop with xpages, especially when developing in a team. I just stumbled onto it, and it explains a lot of weird problems with a coworker. Manually recompile xpages is especially helpful, because if you save your custom control, every dependency is recompiled. If you work on a server and another colleague does something similar, you might be ending up with a big mess of classes that do not match each other, and not even re [read] Keywords: xpages blogger development server

Logout from your XPage in a Nutshell
Wed, Jun 27th 2012 9:15a   Arne Menting
Have you ever struggled to provide a quick & easy logout link for your XPage-based web site? There are many JavaScript (both Server-Side and Client-Side) solutions, but this is, what works best for me, and its the simplest, plain solution i could come up with: Just put "./?logout" in your link text, and you are done! For convenience, you can easily add "&redirectTo=yourFavouriteSite", or compute that part. [read] Keywords: blogger javascript server

Creating Percentage Totals for Every Line in Views
Sat, Jun 23rd 2012 6:14a   Arne Menting
Using percentages, it is just not possible to create a correct value for every row in a view, if you are aggregating upwards. Here is an Example: Calculating the revenue change in comparison to the last year, displaying as percent. As all amounts are summed up, they could not be automatically be compared and written as a percentage using notes mechanisms (if you go on and sum up the percentage values, you end up with terrible off numbers, contact me if you have a better alternative). Integrating Domino Fat Client with Web Applications (e.g. use Notes Session for integrated Web Browsers)
Fri, Jun 8th 2012 6:10a   Arne Menting
If you often use Lotus Notes Fat Client applications and want to integrate security with any domino-based webapplication using the http server task, this is a nice new way to implement easy single sign on, so that the user does not have to log on multiple times. The notes-session can even be used to authenticate to the http task in such a way, that the user does not even recognize, that he is logged on to the domino server in the process. I am just reposting these links here, as the original des [read] Keywords: domino ldd lotus notes notes client applications blogger security server

Multiple checkboxes writing into one variable, in a repeat control
Tue, May 15th 2012 7:10a   Arne Menting
This time a very special control: you want to include checkboxes in a repeat control or a view control for every row that is rendered. This should work for pager etc. and write into one single variable. Usually this does not work, as a CheckboxGroup cannot span over other tags. I found the following workaround, that uses a HashMap in the sessionScope to store the values. Unfortunately, this only seems to work with regular updates, as the pager control does not save values for already checked box [read] Keywords: ibm blogger java javascript xml

How To Set Dojo Timeout for Partial Updates and AJAX Calls
Mon, Nov 28th 2011 8:09a   Arne Menting
I recently had a hard time searching for a possibility to set the default for a call done by an XPage client sidescript.XPages-Dojo default is somewhere around 6 seconds (infinite for normal dojo), which is just not enough in some places (be sure to include a loading bar or dojo standby to signal the user you are still doing something for them in the backend). After some research i found this link, whick is exactly what i needed, and now im reblogging it here to give it some more keywords for you [read] Keywords: xpages ajax blogger dojo

JPA, Eclipselink and Lotus Domino Integration
Tue, Sep 27th 2011 8:11a   Arne Menting
You might be curious, what my last post about doing geo-spatial queries in JPA has to do with Lotus Domino development - here is the answer, and a question: After developing the classes for my spatial search along a specified route (tested perfectly well in the eclipse environment), now is the time to intregrate this beast with Lotus Domino server - this should be pretty simple - but only on first sight. Spatial Queries for MS SQL in Eclipselink JPA Expressions
Mon, Sep 19th 2011 7:08a   Arne Menting
The Problem: How to query Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Geography Data Type with Eclipslink Expressions? Eclipselink provides an easy, extensible way of mapping relational data to java objects. But: it does not yet implement direct mapping of the geography data type that is available on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (byte array mapping is possible though). Now this is easy with a native query like this simple query, that selects all entries, that are within a buffer of 500m within a given route - [read] Keywords: blogger database eclipse email java microsoft properties server sql wiki xml
