Sametime meetings not working in STProxy web client
Wed, Dec 17th 2014 11:11a   Ben Williams
I found that for a customer the meetings icons in the STProxy web client wasn’t bringing up the user’s meeting rooms. After a bit of debugging server trace showed that an LtpaToken was being generated but the browser wasn’t getting an LtpaToken returned to it. It drove me made because the STProxy doesn’t need to have SSO enabled for it to work like the Meeting server does, regardless of that, SSO worked in all directions between the Community server and the Meeting server [read] Keywords: ibm sametime community server xml

Sametime 9 policies not working due to slashes in the policy name in SSC
Fri, Dec 5th 2014 6:11a   Ben Williams
I had come back on site to a customer to deploy some other Sametime 9 services and found that the managed-settings.xml wasn’t being applied to the clients. I remembered reading Gabriella Davis’ blog http://turtleblog.info/2014/04/02/problems-deploying-sametime-policies-the-missing-link so I found it and at first I enabled POLICY_DEBUG_LEVEL=5 and then updated console.properties adding  SSCUserName, SSCPassword and removing SSCEncodedAuthorization. Cannot edit Media Manager policies due to incomplete xml data in DB2
Tue, Nov 25th 2014 11:10a   Ben Williams
I had a few problems with a customer’s deployment of Sametime 9 which probably come down to deployment plans and the order of the servers being installed. During installation I had problems detailed in “System version is null” on new IBM Sametime Video Manager installation which forced me to uninstall the VMGR and install again with a new deployment plan. The outcome of this was that I could not administer the default policies nor create new Media Manager policies in the SSC, I saw the [read] Keywords: admin agent connections ibm policies sametime application applications citrix database db2 password server sql xml

I am installing Sametime 9 for a customer but had a prickly moment after installing the VMGR on RHEL 6.5. After installing I couldn’t access the VMGR from the SSC, it was registered, I couldn’t get access to the SIP peer and other details. Sametime 9 business cards revisited and beaten!

Over the years I have always struggled to get to grips with business cards and particularly photos mainly because I do it for a customer, forget about it and then have to do it again six months later. I have a Sametime 9 build coming up and I wanted to revisit business cards and for once write a conclusive guide which I have decided to share in case it helps anyone else out there. Fri, Aug 15th 2014 6:11a   Ben Williams
I have seen this problem a couple of years ago but didn’t follow it up with IBM through a PMR. For another customer I found the following happened after I applied the latest Sametime Proxy (STProxy) patch available on Fix Central. After applying the update the stproxyconfig.xml was changed and the bespoke values that were previously there removed. This was odd in itself but after applying the values again through the SSC the values sticked. The values that were removed are as follo [read] Keywords: ibm sametime apple server xml

Solution for Sametime connection issue with iNotes when SSL is used

Yesterday I moved a customers single Sametime 8.0.2 server to a new server. The planning and execution went well apart for pesky iNotes integration with STLinks. The customer isn’t huge so going Sametime 9 with SSC and DB2 really didn’t warrant increased consultancy and support costs and certainly not a Sametime Proxy. Anyway, the problem I had (which wasn’t happening with 8.0.2) was that in IE awareness wouldn’t appear. Check out by the testers showed that Connections was functioning correctly but by Monday morning it was apparent there were problems. Looking at the various SystemOut.logs on monday morning I saw errors such as the following on both the Connections nodes. A customer had caused themselves a bit of bother by restarting the OS before shutting down DB2 just thinking that it will deal with it…. After doing this only Files wasn’t working so I checked the SystemOut.log and saw the following error. Connections email notifications schedule
Wed, May 2nd 2012 4:13p   Ben Williams
A customer was asking me about the daily and weekly digest notification emails that are sent out. Their query was going down a different route but to try and head off a potential question about editing the times that the notifications are sent I read around Customizing IBM Lotus Connections 3.0 email digests which was useful but did not give me the information I wanted. Remembering that I had read something related to this in the last couple of months I went through my feeds and found that one o [read] Keywords: connections ibm lotus email facebook twitter

Connections last log in date and time
Wed, May 2nd 2012 9:11a   Ben Williams
A customer has asked for a list of all users and the last time they have accessed Connections. Ideally this would be a repeatable exercise and would output the user’s name, email address, last log in date/time and their DN. As Connections is a collection of applications there are a number of databases that hold this information and it is possible to log into one and not the other, for example, a user might have logged into Blogs last in January but logged into Wikis yesterday. Who deleted my Connections community?
Fri, Apr 27th 2012 6:12a   Ben Williams
I was asked by a customer who had deleted an important community. The SystemOut.log was of no help but DB2 holds the information I am after. In the SNCOMM database is a table called EVENTLOG which the below screen shot was taken from using DBVisualizer. The community I focused on in my test environment is highlighted under COMMUNITY_UUID. The screen shot shows when the community was created and then later on when Ben Williams (defined in the CREATED_BY column) added Joe Bloggs as a member (commu [read] Keywords: connections community database db2 facebook sql twitter

“The recipient list is too long for the browser to pass to your e-mail client” when sending an email to community members
Sun, Apr 15th 2012 6:11a   Ben Williams
A user was trying to send an email to a community of circa 350 users and was getting the error “The recipient list is too long for the browser to pass to your e-mail client.” I looked at the “maxRecipients” value in the notifications-config.xml and tried to make sense of what that value means. The Connections wiki states “The element defines the maximum number of people to whom you can send a notification at one time. The customer reported a problem when trying to add the blogs widget to a community, an “error 409: conflict” appeared stopping the user from being able to create a blog. Interestingly, the user could see from a list of their own blogs a blog with the same name as the community. Further inspection shows that the blog is restricted like the community is. A while ago I worked with Frank Altenburg of ISSL on a customer engagement and one of the many titbits of information he gave me was how to change the context root so that users could enter http://server.company.com or http://server.company.com/chat for example and be redirected to http://server.company.com/stwebclient/index.jsp automatically. I read with interest Carl Tyler’s recent blog entry Sametime Proxy in which he talks about the Sametime Proxy. I agree with Carl that the Proxy is a great piece of technology and a great replacement for STLinks. I demo’d in my blog entry Sametime Proxy in iNotes – death of STLinks? how the Proxy can be used to replace STLinks in iNotes which should be supported in Sametime 8.5.2 (from what I was told last)….. Rename of Connection Community doesn’t rename return label in Quickr

A customer has come across a problem when using the Quickr Connector for Connections. The Connector allows a Quickr Place (called a Teamspace) to be created from within a Lotus Connections Community on the Quickr server which allows the Community members to take advantage of all the good stuff Quickr has to offer. Once you have created a Place in Quickr it’s not easy to change the Placetype to another for example switching “Standard” to a custom Placetype. DB2 HADR – clustered Meeting servers
Sun, Dec 19th 2010 9:00a   Ben Williams
I needed to create a cluster of Sametime Meeting servers to ensure high availability. With WebSphere (like Domino) this is relatively easy but what about the database? DB2 HADR (High Availability and Disaster Recovery) ensures that two databases are kept in sync with each other in case one of the databases fails. HADR does this by creating a primary and standby database. The primary is always in use whilst the standby is kept in sync using internal processes to ship database log buffers to it.
