The Best (practices) Session on Compliance Hits Lotusphere Today (Monday)!
Bill Malchisky

Thrilled to be giving the only session on compliance in the Best Practices track. With scores of new regulations coming out of Washington and eDiscovery lawsuits climbing dramatically year-over-year, this session is quite timely. Join me today in the Swan Toucan, at 5:00 PM EST for an entertaining and information session to learn about the current trends and why you should take it seriously, lest your firm end up as a front page story for the wrong reasons. .

Title: BP204 Smart Plays with Compliance
Abstract:
Straight from the pages of THE VIEW Journal series on Compliance and the Lotus Admin, comes an enhanced session on the subject for Lotusphere. What is your company’s e-discovery plan? Do you even have one or is it sorely in need of a facelift? Together we will review current trends in compliance and team structuring to achieve success.

Big News for ICS Partners!
Wed, Sep 17th 2014 10:15p   Bill Malchisky Jr.
After three years of working with IBM, I am proud to make the first public announcement of the beta milestone of a new IBM community feedback continuity tool entitled, Voice of the Partner. ICS is behind this at the highest levels and there is a strong desire within IBM to make this a success. Imagine that as a partner you have a tool where you can input ideas and concerns to IBM and receive a response in a meaningful way, that also ensures continuity of feedback throughout the issue's life [read] Keywords: ibm community

Using Sametime Mobile? Avoid iOS 8 for Now
Tue, Sep 16th 2014 6:12a   Bill Malchisky Jr.
IBM released a Technote yesterday on the issues with their Sametime Mobile applications on iPhones and iPads running iOS 8 -- due for release on Wednesday, 17 September 2014. My friends Gabriella Davis and Matteo Bisi both blogged on the Technote. Beyond that, there exists a post on The Sametime Blog offering a behind-the-scenes look as to the challenges therein, written by the on-premises Sametime Product Manager - Marlon Machado. In meeting Marlon previously, I can tell you he is a good guy an [read] Keywords: connections ibm sametime apple applications mobile planetlotus planetlotus.org

iNotes Users -- Chrome 37 Creates Compatibility Issues
Fri, Sep 5th 2014 2:12p   Bill Malchisky Jr.
IBM released today, a new Technote for iNotes users, entitled, "Some iNotes operations fail to work correctly in Chrome browsers upgraded to Chrome version 37" and is available here. These five key areas introducing concern stem from Google deprecating the showModalDialog API. 1. Create/Edit Mail rule 2. Contacts Form and the Print action 3. Calendar view and results window displayed when using the "Import Holidays" action (off the "More" menu) 4. Preferences (Select [read] Keywords: ibm inotes lotus google password security

In updating my Ubuntu LTS host OS caused me to receive several GPG BADSIG errors, visually captured in the following Update Manager error message. You can see the errors more closely via a terminal window. malchw@san-domino:~$ sudo apt-get update W: A error occurred during the signature verification. IBM’s Lost Art of Installation is Costing Them Revenue
Mon, Aug 25th 2014 3:12p   Bill Malchisky Jr.
Preface - As I started this entry in June and in doing research to articulate the point, the case for installation simplicity grew dramatically. This post commences by illustrating the present state, how IBM did better previously (and still does with a different product), three customer examples of revenue impact, and closes with an offered solution for the present state. Please understand it is my intent to assist rather than besmirch, while being professional and respectful to both the communi [read] Keywords: admin administration collaboration connections domino ibm lotusphere sametime aix application community consulting db2 laptop linux red hat server tivoli vmware websphere xml

Train Tips for European Traveling - Part II
Wed, Aug 20th 2014 6:13a   Bill Malchisky Jr.
As I covered last year in Train Tips for European Traveling, train travel is a fun adventure. For my second installment, this year I chose the Dutch Intercity high speed and Eurostar lines and wanted to provide some information that may save you some time or alleviate logistical concerns. Enjoy! Train Service in The Netherlands 1. Some "Great Train Rides" of the World
Sun, Aug 10th 2014 10:12p   Bill Malchisky Jr.
The Wall Street Journal released an Off Duty Travel section article entitled, "Great Train Rides: Run Away on the Rails", covering six scenic and enjoyable routes on four continents plus the island nation of New Zealand--including input from Mike Smith, The Man in Seat Sixty-One. Although hardly cyclopedic nor meant to be, reader comments do indicate additional favorites. The leadoff permutation limns the joy of the London to Edinburgh run, which I am happy to say I enjoyed -- twice, while pre [read] Keywords:

Skype 4.3 on Linux Crashing? Here’s a Fix.
Tue, Aug 5th 2014 7:12a   Bill Malchisky Jr.
Microsoft released Skype 4.3 on Linux recently, to replace the aging version 4.2 due to cloud conversions utilized in other client flavors. There are some noticeable changes with the upgrade including new features. However, for power Skype users, there appears to exist a bug in the upgrade process causing the new Skype client to crash repeatedly just after the main window appears. Although conjecture, I suspect the problem manifests itself for those that have sent files to one or more contac [read] Keywords: application archive bug centos community database linux microsoft python red hat server skype ubuntu
