developers don't seem to take as seriously as the Domino server folks is
backwards compatiblity. We're always finding little things that need
tweaking in releases, now in the Sametime 8.5 we just found a big one.
In Sametime 8.5 there is no longer the XULrunner component. XULrunner
was the embedded browser that ran inside the Sametime client. So
any plugin that was developed using that component of Sametime is now broken.

posted a blog entry about Importing PDF files into Rich Text Fields in
Notes. It explained how you could now import PDF files into Notes,
if you renamed them to .DOC. At the time I thought, that is totally
coole, but had no time to test it. I honestly thought it was so cool
that it would have had a lot more hits on PlanetLotus and others would
have talked about it, but they didn't.

DOH! Homer Simpson Router configuration moment.
Thu, Feb 18th 2010 4:23p Carl Tyler For the last couple of weeks, I've been
wondering why my upload speed was slow, I'm paying for 1Mb and I was getting
around 300k. I plugged my PC into my backup DSL line and that was
giving the advertised 768k, so how come the cable wasn't giving me 1Mb.
The sleuthing began, after unplugging various routers, conecting
to the modem directly and getting the correct speed I decided it was the
router. Downloaded the latest firmware and checked it again, still

developers? There's definitely been a huge increase in the posts

through the school of hard knocks, where their company has said yes we

What's with calling switching customers the equivalent of idiots?

companies when they choose to switch from one vendor to another. If
I was someone that chose to switch from Vendor A to Vendor B and the people
involved with vendor A then basically called me and my colleagues idiots,
I'd make a point of never ever considering Vendor A again.
Perhaps instead of castigating the switching company, we should look at
the reasons why they chose to switch, and work with Vendor A to take the

You've installed Sametime 8.5, it isn't working, what now?

Sametime 8.5, purchased additional hardware and installed it. But
there are problems, it doesn't seem to work, how do you get a clue as to
what's going on?
Each of the Sametime 8.5 server components
do create log files, sadly there isn't like a single location for them
they are spread all over the place. The Sametime 8.5 Infocenter
will tell you the location of the log files, but erhm, that document is

Did anybody else notice real player ads start popping up?

the real player updater started showing an ad in the bottom right corner
as a toast.
Simple solution, was to disable the
notifications in the app, but you know the solution I much prefer, I uninstalled
it. I didn't give you the ability to obtain updates so you could

conferencing services out there, CISCO have some really impressive capabilities
with their Telepresence stuff, Sametime has some new video codecs in Sametime

offers great video.

many of the other consumer based offerings for enterprise Video. Why
is it a problem, well most of them just work and for most people they work

Why Lotus Notes is a better client for Vista than Microsoft Outlook

Vista now, and it's more than a little irritating. You apply some
windows updates and reboot the machine, your desktop icons have gone! Any
files you stored on the desktop, any folders you created, no longer appear,
then very innocent tiny little toast popup appears saying

Are Notes 8.x Java views the only views that support drag and drop?

been pretty unforgiving about Notes 8.x inconsistencies, for a product
that's had 20 years to evolve it's pretty disappointing. Testing
the trashcan plugin,
I think I've come across another one. It looks like Notes Java Views,
are the only views that support drag and drop to Notes panels? So
you can drag and drop from your inbox or calendar for example, but not
from an existing app that hasn't been updated.

Is there a perfect balance between things working and not working?

again, then at about the exact same time my iPhone decided the only thing
I should look at is a white screen, I reset it, restored it, still white.
I took the sim card from the iphone and put it in my old Samsung
Windows Mobile phone. Guess what, the Samsung booted up, got my emails
and gave me appointment reminders with the option to snooze, god I miss

Obama is coming to town - means no flying.
