One of the recent Inc. Magazine issues cited how two celebrities “stack up” against each other. Before this age of social media, you would expect statistics around the number of emmys, grammys, oscars, etc. but I was surprised to see that the benchmark for these two celebrity’s success was around “likes”, “views”, “retweets”, and “subscriptions”. Sure, the article mentioned the number of awards and accolades these people received but the focus was on charts showing the statistics around the popularity of their social profiles.
This type measurement correlates to our own work llives, doesn’t it? Are you “liking” your organization? Do you “view(s)” your organization website? Do you “subscribe” to you organizations youtube channel? Do you follow your own organizations twitter stream? These social activities relate to how interesting or uninteresting your work life is. Think about it for a minute. If within the walls of your company there were more engaging conversations online and your company was more transparent in terms of activities and goals, wouldn’t it make for a more interesting and fun environment? I think it would and here’s why:
Organizations that are more open and engage with their internal communities typically foster an exceptional work experience. Traditional ways of doing business still exist but new channels are opening around us that enable the workforce to work faster, be more agile, and cultivate innovation. If you are not creating these “open” channels then the opportunity will be lost and the next generation of knowledge workers will move on. It’s that simple. The rules are not set in stone for social business however they are being outlined and implemented in many ways leveraging the tools that are available. Do yourself a favor and take a look. The wave is coming. You can either catch the wave or be left behind.

Imagine being 13 and thinking about ending your life because you are being bullied… No one to turn to because you feel like speaking out will fuel the fire. So you hide from everyone and mask it with a smile because you don’t want to make it a big deal. Then, the day comes where you can’t take anymore and [read] Keywords: policies
