Webcast Invite: Collaboration, Party of One
Chris Miller

This awesome session from Kathy Brown and Jess Stratton was given at Lotusphere 2012 and we are happy to have them present Collaboration, Party of One : When You Are Both the Dev and the Admin to the Consultant In Your Pocket series on May 23rd at 1pm EST.
When your administrator and your developer are one and the same, and they’re both you, things can get confusing. As the administrator, you’ve got a lot of power. Frequently, the role of administrator is to lock things down, keep the server running smoothly and tune performance. As the developer, you want a lot of power. You want unlimited agents to run anytime you want, as frequently as possible, with little to no limitations! So how do you reconcile these opposing needs when you have to play both roles? Jess and Kathy will show you how to use separate IDs, location documents and other fail-safes to make sure your party of one is successful!

This webcast is free and you can register today at  http://idonot.es/CIYPSeries4d and look for your confirmation email with your own custom meeting URL

You can watch all the previously recorded webcasts at http://ConsultantInYourPocket.com

Rebranding IBM SmartCloud offerings name to IBM Connections family
Wed, Sep 24th 2014 8:17a   Chris Miller
IBM has announced the rebranding of IBM SmartCloud to IBM Connections. As you can see in the chart below, IBM Connections is now a platform and not a product. We were first told of this at IBM Connect 2014. Here is a quick chart with the new names plus more news. These changes will be implemented on or after September 20. No customer actions or changes will be required, and no URLs will change. There will be a dual entitlement option to help you move to the IBM Connections cloud for your [read] Keywords: connections ibm email

On our recent World Cup 2014 adventure to Brazil, Carl Tyler and myself had daily car debates we recorded. Here is the one on toilet paper direction. See our Worldcup blog for more photos and videos via the Flickr group and YouTube channel. [read] Keywords:

Wink Connected Home Hub (PWHUB-WH01) review
Wed, Sep 17th 2014 9:59a   Chris Miller
The simplicity of the Wink Connected Home Hub makes this a bit confusing to some. The Wink Hub is only the hub and a power cable. During configuration you connect it to your wifi (which should have Internet access) and then use the mobile app on iOS or Android to finish the configuration. The easy steps are as follows (which we cover in the video) - Plug in the wink Hub - Load the iOS or Android app - Connect to the Wink Hub and begin configuration - Add supported devices by simply scann [read] Keywords: application archive mobile network wifi

Top 10 reasons to choose IBM SmartCloud for Social Business over Microsoft Office 365
Tue, Sep 16th 2014 7:12a   Chris Miller
IBM has released Top 10 reasons to choose IBM SmartCloud for Social Business over Microsoft Office 365 whitepaper. Here are some highlights. Documents from either IBM Connections or SmartCloud for Social Business which are synced to your laptop or mobile device are encrypted. Microsoft’s offline files are not encrypted which may result in the loss of confidential information if your device is lost or stolen. This is generally a large requirement by organizations. I would not be surpris [read] Keywords: connections domino ibm laptop microsoft mobile office

IBM ConnectED 2015 conference tracks
Mon, Sep 15th 2014 9:18a   Chris Miller
IBM has placed the ConnectED 2015 tracks online for the January 25-28, 2015 event replacing IBM Connect/Lotusphere. Gone are BOFs and Show and Tell but a new tracks take theirs place. IBM has introduced Chalktalk Sessions in track seven to replace BOFs. This means a more interactive and open communication approach to the early morning/late evening sessions. Also new is "Beyond the Everyday" which gets itself in quotes and seems to place the Show and Tell track. The rest seem to be prett [read] Keywords: collaboration ibm lotusphere show and tell

Does Server_Restricted Do What You Think?
Thu, Sep 11th 2014 10:00a   Chris Miller
In another SocialBizUg article I had to question how we think about the Server Restricted ability in Domino. It does not always work how we think it should. Since IBM offers it we definitely want to use server_restricted=x with the appropriate value. There are four possible values (previous to 8.5.2 FP3 there was only 2): The problem is that some of the options still have unintended results. Mainly allowing users access to the server still based on database ACL rights. You can read the whole [read] Keywords: acl domino ibm database server

iLuv Wavecast Portable Bluetooth Stereo Speaker review
Tue, Sep 9th 2014 9:00a   Chris Miller
The iLuv Wavecast Portable Bluetooth Speaker comes in four colors, with the pink apparently hard to find. The sound quality was decent for such a lightweight device. It sits at just under one pound in weight. The battery life in the iLuv Wavecast was about four hours on a full charge. The back indicator light stays lit while charging until the battery is full. Make sure to turn the power switch on the top off between uses to converse the battery on this one. Pairing was simple. Hold the [read] Keywords: archive

BLU Studio 5.0C HD review - An unlocked, dual sim Android phone
Mon, Sep 8th 2014 8:45a   Chris Miller
The BLU Studio 5.0 C HD phone with dual SIM cards, quad core processor, a close to stock Android 4.4 Kit Kat operating system, 8MP camera and more for under $150? In four colors too. From the moment I opened the box I knew we had a winner with the BLU Studio 5.0 C HS phone. A dual sim, unlocked phone with an almost non-modified Kit Kat version of Android. That right there would cost you hundreds more in most phones. But the pricing on this made me skeptical until I did some real world testin [read] Keywords: archive facebook google wifi

IBM Champion 2015 nominations are open
Wed, Sep 3rd 2014 9:00a   Chris Miller
IBM has opened nominations for IBM Champion 2015 program. Anyone can be nominated and yes you can nominate yourself. I have been astounded to be part of the program since inception four year ago now. So what is an IBM Champion? I wrote a blog posting back in 2013 trying to give you a snapshot into what other Champions think it means to hold the designation. To sum everyone up it recognizes those people that give back to the community.
