IBM Notes and Domino 9 launches public beta
Chris Miller

IBM raced ahead of schedule to release IBM Notes and Domino 9 into public beta as of today. With the public beta everyone can get their hands on what is to become the must have client and server compared to every previous release. (We always say that though). Lok for some of the following features:
Activity streams: allow you to view and take action quickly on content and events
  • Embedded Experiences: allow you to access business critical actions from other applications without leaving your email. This brings collaboration in-context and results in tighter integration across iNotes, Connections, Notes, app dev (XPages), and 3rd-party products and services
  • Contemporary user interface, simpler navigation, easier to locate information both in Notes and iNotes
  • IBM Notes Browser Plug-in: allows rapid delivery of IBM Notes Social Edition applications to the web
  • Incorporation of a social application container, based on the OpenSocial standard, which provides for development of a reusable set of “gadgets” from both IBM and third parties
Lotus Traveler will also get some added support for BlackBerry BES 10, Windows phone 8 and iSeries.

I have already downloaded the server from the public site and client installs and everything installed easily and is running smoothly. I have plenty of commentary to come on different areas as we go along and I think they should be posts for each one.

The server code is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit for Windows, Linux and AIX. There is also iSeries. Lotus Traveler for Linux, Windows and iSeries is also there.

I would get the test servers and clients ready to see what IBM will talk about at IBM Connect 2013 and Lotusphere.

Wed, Jul 30th 2014 8:44a   Chris Miller
The V.ALRT (VSN400) Personal Emergency Response Device is a bluetooth enabled device that activates to send emergency texts with your location and a help message. It came well packaged with the device, a pendant hook (no necklace included as indicated) and the wrist band. The device is attached to the package via a sticky tab so do not be afraid to give it a tug to dislodge it. Also included is a simple quick start guide. GreatCall Splash - Waterproof Medical Alert Device review
Thu, Jul 24th 2014 9:37a   Chris Miller
Overall the GreatCall Splash - Waterproof Medical Alert Device does what it states as a medical alert device. The downside in rating revolves around clarity of expectations, setup and performance. See the review. The device itself is tiny and we like the simplicity of the front with a single button. We could also see this getting misplaced or forgotten. The addition of the belt clip was nice and stayed on during our tests. We could see the clip breaking if caught on something though. Peo [read] Keywords: archive interface

The D-Link Wi-Fi AC750 Portable Router & Charger (DIR-510L) is the next step in portable routers for the road warrior. With AC band, profiles, USB charging ports, USB 3G/4G support, router, access point and more. I have numerous portable routers, repeaters and access points now (most with reviews up). D-Link is trying to bridge together more than a few features in one device and has done so very well. Tue, Jul 22nd 2014 9:04a   Chris Miller
We review both the aluminum and carbonate Brydge iPad Keyboard and Speaker case. These are made for the iPad 2nd through 4th generations and connect via Bluetooth. (The iPad Air has a different case that is available) The full QWERTY keyboard on the Brydge iPad Case was responsive with many hotkeys already available. We had no issues paring the keyboard with the iPad. Indicator light on the switch tells you if it is in pairing mode, low on battery or charging. Make sure you place the iPad [read] Keywords:
