While reading more and listening to the webcasts given by IBM on the new IBM XWork Server, something was sticking in the back of my mind that was missing. I couldn't place it till this weekend. The license agreement has a few restrictions as expected. You cannot partition the code, nor can you replicate or cluster with other non-XWork server. I fully agree and understand.
However this is where I caught a small wording issue.
Replication of the Program is permitted only with Licensees corporate directory and the Program servers.
I was reading the full IBM License Document for the IBM XWork Server (only for you and customers, not because I do this daily) and caught the above line. What this means is you cannot also replicate admin4, Domino Domain Monitoring, Directory Assistance or other system databases.
So things like name changes, collection hierarchies and directory structures will need to be stand-alone inside the XWork environment.
Does anyone else see an issue with that for renames and other adminp processing?
IBM adds audio video calling to IBM SmartCloud for Social Business
Wed, Aug 27th 2014 10:49a Chris Miller IBM announced they added one-to-one audio and video calling to IBM SmartCloud for Social Business this past week. This has been needed for many years. While Lync in Office 365 has had this capability since as far back as 2011 (from what I can find), it is a welcomed addition to the IBM SmartCloud. While it is limited to only the SmartCloud and web only, they are promising expansion to mobile devices. As you can see in the image above, right clicking on any name in your contact list (that is [read] Keywords: connections
LEGO Architectire: The Visual Guide - book review
Mon, Aug 25th 2014 10:07a Chris Miller I was able to get an early copy of LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide by Philip Wilkinson for review. This is quite an impressive coffee table type book. The packaging itself of LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide let's you know what you are about to experience with this book. At just under 5 pounds in weight and over 200 pages, the book comes slips out of it's own hard case. The pages are heavy weight with black background and white font. (that is my one complaint I will address later). [read] Keywords: archive
Why Did They Remove Lite Mode from IBM iNotes 9?
Thu, Aug 21st 2014 1:45p Chris Miller Many were surprised to find out that IBM removed iNotes Lite as a menu option in IBM iNotes 9. Tracking down what changed took a bit. here is what I found. I found an IBM document explaining what features were reaching parity between Lite and Full and why they retired it. Once you upgrade all URLs redirect and even adding the Lite Mode to a URL will still go to Full Mode. It just is not there to use Read the full article in my Sys Admin Tips newsletter right here. Sametime "Too Many Chat Windows Open" Warning
Wed, Aug 20th 2014 9:23a Chris Miller In the middle of IBM Sametime client preferences is an option to warn when you have too many chat windows open. However, it had no information. Here is what I found. This setting in your Preferences, disabled by default, will generate a warning when you have too many chat windows open. Adding to the confusion I already had is that the documentation actually uses an entry in the preferences file which does not match the UI name, making it even harder to find for the normal person. Is St Louis now only known as Ferguson?
Thu, Aug 14th 2014 1:03p Chris Miller As we watch the story unfold about the shooting in Ferguson, MIssouri many think it is a major part of St Louis. I finally decided to write a post showing the scope of size of Ferguson inside St Louis. On the right of the image is the entire State of Missouri which covers 69,709 square miles. Next to it on the left is the cutout of St Louis County which covers 524 square miles. Inside of that left image is Ferguson which covers 6.2 square miles. Yes you read that correctly. Contact delegation in Lotus Notes
Tue, Aug 12th 2014 9:13a Chris Miller I received an email asking about contact delegation in Lotus Notes for user to user controls. Unfortunately this is not easily done, even with the integrated contacts in the mailfile. What you are trying to do is use the mail delegation abilities to manage contacts that are stored in the mail file itself. While this option does not exist, I might have a suggestion that would work perfectly for you. You can read the full question and my answer on my Sys Admin Tips monthy newsletter and article [read] Keywords: admin
Can I Throttle and Restrict SMTP Connections in Domino?
Mon, Aug 11th 2014 6:12a Chris Miller While most companies now use a SMTP appliance to scan for viruses and spam, you may still want to throttle connections from individual internal servers or the appliances to your IBM Domino server. This leads to questioning how Domino can throttle SMTP traffic from specific hosts. After some quick verification of what I was almost sure was not fully possible, there is a partial solution I know of. By default, the Domino SMTP service supports an unlimited number of inbound sessions; that is, as [read] Keywords: connections
BlackBerry Passport - have you seen this new device yet?
Thu, Aug 7th 2014 8:46a Chris Miller BlackBerry is at it again with the new BlackBerry Passport coming out. A square looking device with full 1440x1440 resolution. I have waited to write about it to read more of what it will offer. The reasons are solid Imagine getting back a real keyboard for starters. People just loved the keyboard. You also get the ability to load Android apps, which closes that compliant door. I know I have been loving my Z10 even more now that I grab anything I want from Google Play and no sideloading.
