The magic Lotusphere 2012 Pretzel Cookie
Chris Miller

It seems that there is much debate over this tasty treat delivered in our box lunch on Thursday.  I made it a point to tell my session attendees about it and to hunt it down.  Many even gave me extras as we headed out to collapse along the lake and enjoy some sun. (Some got way too much sun that afternoon *cough* mooney *cough*)

Well the cookie is a fine balance between not being too salty from the pretzels and not too sweet from just the cookie.  The immediate way it melts in the box lunch is a sure sign that you do not need to eat it all at once, or suffer possible stomach ache.

Many of you despise it, that is fine, we will take the extras.  Others are still non-believers and many have not seen it.  So I bring to you a simple picture.

Getting eligible is not too difficult: You must be in an approved accelerator, incubator or VC fund Have not received Cloud Platform credits before You have less that $5M in funding Currently less than $500,000 in annual revenueEven companies like SnapChat are on the Cloud Platform at Google. Does Server_Restricted Do What You Think?
Thu, Sep 11th 2014 10:00a   Chris Miller
In another SocialBizUg article I had to question how we think about the Server Restricted ability in Domino. It does not always work how we think it should. Since IBM offers it we definitely want to use server_restricted=x with the appropriate value. There are four possible values (previous to 8.5.2 FP3 there was only 2): The problem is that some of the options still have unintended results. Mainly allowing users access to the server still based on database ACL rights. You can read the whole [read] Keywords: acl domino ibm database server

iLuv Wavecast Portable Bluetooth Stereo Speaker review
Tue, Sep 9th 2014 9:00a   Chris Miller
The iLuv Wavecast Portable Bluetooth Speaker comes in four colors, with the pink apparently hard to find. The sound quality was decent for such a lightweight device. It sits at just under one pound in weight. The battery life in the iLuv Wavecast was about four hours on a full charge. The back indicator light stays lit while charging until the battery is full. Make sure to turn the power switch on the top off between uses to converse the battery on this one. Pairing was simple. Hold the [read] Keywords: archive

BLU Studio 5.0C HD review - An unlocked, dual sim Android phone
Mon, Sep 8th 2014 8:45a   Chris Miller
The BLU Studio 5.0 C HD phone with dual SIM cards, quad core processor, a close to stock Android 4.4 Kit Kat operating system, 8MP camera and more for under $150? In four colors too. From the moment I opened the box I knew we had a winner with the BLU Studio 5.0 C HS phone. A dual sim, unlocked phone with an almost non-modified Kit Kat version of Android. That right there would cost you hundreds more in most phones. But the pricing on this made me skeptical until I did some real world testin [read] Keywords: archive facebook google wifi

IBM Champion 2015 nominations are open
Wed, Sep 3rd 2014 9:00a   Chris Miller
IBM has opened nominations for IBM Champion 2015 program. Anyone can be nominated and yes you can nominate yourself. I have been astounded to be part of the program since inception four year ago now. So what is an IBM Champion? I wrote a blog posting back in 2013 trying to give you a snapshot into what other Champions think it means to hold the designation. To sum everyone up it recognizes those people that give back to the community. Thinkware X300 Dash Cam with LCD Touchscreen review
Tue, Sep 2nd 2014 8:50a   Chris Miller
As we show in the video, the Thinkware X300 Dashboard Camera with LCD Touchscreen is simple to configure and use providing exactly what they state in the product description. However, there were a couple areas keeping us form giving it a perfect 5 stars. See the video or read the detailed explanation below. Packaging: Compact with all the necessary accessories outside of one item. A way to provide power to the camera when not in the car if you wanted to set menus or anything else while sitt [read] Keywords: archive mac

IBM adds audio video calling to IBM SmartCloud for Social Business
Wed, Aug 27th 2014 10:49a   Chris Miller
IBM announced they added one-to-one audio and video calling to IBM SmartCloud for Social Business this past week. This has been needed for many years. While Lync in Office 365 has had this capability since as far back as 2011 (from what I can find), it is a welcomed addition to the IBM SmartCloud. While it is limited to only the SmartCloud and web only, they are promising expansion to mobile devices. As you can see in the image above, right clicking on any name in your contact list (that is [read] Keywords: connections ibm sametime mobile office

LEGO Architectire: The Visual Guide - book review
Mon, Aug 25th 2014 10:07a   Chris Miller
I was able to get an early copy of LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide by Philip Wilkinson for review. This is quite an impressive coffee table type book. The packaging itself of LEGO Architecture: The Visual Guide let's you know what you are about to experience with this book. At just under 5 pounds in weight and over 200 pages, the book comes slips out of it's own hard case. The pages are heavy weight with black background and white font. (that is my one complaint I will address later). [read] Keywords: archive

Why Did They Remove Lite Mode from IBM iNotes 9?
Thu, Aug 21st 2014 1:45p   Chris Miller
Many were surprised to find out that IBM removed iNotes Lite as a menu option in IBM iNotes 9. Tracking down what changed took a bit. here is what I found. I found an IBM document explaining what features were reaching parity between Lite and Full and why they retired it. Once you upgrade all URLs redirect and even adding the Lite Mode to a URL will still go to Full Mode. It just is not there to use Read the full article in my Sys Admin Tips newsletter right here. Sametime "Too Many Chat Windows Open" Warning
Wed, Aug 20th 2014 9:23a   Chris Miller
In the middle of IBM Sametime client preferences is an option to warn when you have too many chat windows open. However, it had no information. Here is what I found. This setting in your Preferences, disabled by default, will generate a warning when you have too many chat windows open. Adding to the confusion I already had is that the documentation actually uses an entry in the preferences file which does not match the UI name, making it even harder to find for the normal person.
