200,000 New Zealand children living in poverty
Tue, Sep 6th 2011 11:12p   Chris Sparshott
200,000 New Zealand children living in poverty. ..KidsCan That is a pretty bizarre statistic from Kidscan a charity in NZ which is funding breakfasts in schools for underprivileged kids. I have been reading a bit about social entrepreneurship and rather then have a model where the population donates cash to the charity is there a way to make schools self sufficient whereby they can fund breakfasts for all their pupils without intervention from charities. I don’t have a killer idea ot [read] Keywords:

I need to send out a bunch of pdf files to my customers.   I need multiple folders to manage the correspondence and information (attachments) with these customers. 1. I generate a pdf from our software renewal system. 2. I then create a folder for the month that the renewal is due. 3. Then I create a sub-folder for the name of the customer under the renewal month. 4. Once done I create an email folder with the name of the customer. I want 1. Watson Versus Milo
Wed, Aug 31st 2011 3:09p   Chris Sparshott
While looking at the ibm.com web site and the next phase of the Watson super computer to help the health industry I thought more along the lines of how Watson becomes more human.  Although not really “more human” just the perception of being human. Where do you go with these sort of questions on the net, well TED of course.  After a very very quick search a very interesting video about Milo the virtual 11 year old boy struck me as having great parallels to Watson (a some level). Habitat for Humanity – Day of Service
Wed, Jun 15th 2011 5:12p   Chris Sparshott
Today IBM is 100 Years old. If IBM was British he or she would be getting a signed card from the Queen to mark the special occasion. IBM did something bigger and bolder.  Every employee had the opportunity to do one day of service in their community.  That’s all 300,000+ employees around the world get the opportunity to help out. Sure, some think it’s just a way that the corporation get free advertising and brand awareness.  While this is no doubt true it misses the point. My empl [read] Keywords: ibm community

Home entertainment debate
Mon, Jun 6th 2011 11:14p   Chris Sparshott
Our current TV is 10 years old, you turn it on and wait for the valves to warm up and the mice to wake up and start running on their tread mill before a dull picture attempts to illuminate the chaos that is our living room. If fair to say that the picture is as sharp as a dull spoon and as illuminating as a black and white rainbow. After much discussion with the wife, neighbours and colleagues we decided upon a Sony CX520, 32″.  Why? It was a TV that will hopefully be current for 3-5 year [read] Keywords: desktop google skype

Dental floss with suction cup
Sun, May 29th 2011 5:09p   Chris Sparshott
Just got back from the dentisit perhaps my most hated activity in a given year.  The dentist gave my teeth a good clean which involved a fair bit of mouth rinsing and blood spitting.  He did say that now is the time to start flossing as the plaque form my teeth has pretty been scraped off kicking and screaming. The concierge from the Intercontinental opens the taxi door to allow me to step in unhindered.  For a moment I wonder whether I should tip and then realise that I don’t have any Australian money to hand – oh well I am just another tight POM.
