If youre thinking of implementing DAOS, do this first...
Wed, Feb 10th 2010 4:56p   Chris Whisonant
Actually, you may want to consider running this on your servers this weekend if you havent already implemented DAOS. Get it out of the way... :)br /ibr /load compact mail -c -ZU/i - While youre at it, throw in thei -v -n/i switches too to enable body and design compression. And make sure that youve enabled these settings in the advanced properties tab of the templates so that the compression options do not get turned back off by the design task.br /br /You should no longer use the i-ZU/i switch [read] Keywords: ibm properties

Easy Way To Manage ACL or Advanced Properties For a Folder (SNTT)
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 10:58a   Chris Whisonant
One of the nice tricks with the Domino Administrator Client Files tab is the ability to update ACLs and properties for all databases in a folder and sub-folders. To do this, just right-click the folder and choose from the list of available options. ikeyman Not Allowing 2048 bit keysize
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 10:58a   Chris Whisonant
Earlier today I was renewing the SSL certificate for BleedYellows IHS server. But I ran into a slight issue in that the IBM SSL Key Management utility (ikeyman) was only giving me the choice of 512 or 1024 bit key length. But now, 2 years later (wow, time flies!), GoDaddy requires 2048 or 4096 bit requests and does not accept a 1024 bit request. This is good to know, for sure! After a quick use of my google-fu, I was able to find a href=http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21304144th [read] Keywords: ibm application google server websphere

How To Speed Up Your Domino Server And Reduce Corruption
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 10:58a   Chris Whisonant
This is definitely an age-old recommendation, but it is something that most customers have problems with. OS-level Antivirus. IBM has finally published a technote (1417504) a href=http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21417504Recommendations for exclusions when running Operation (sic) System Antivirus/a. Don't forget to update transaction logging format in 8.5
Fri, Sep 25th 2009 12:00p   Chris Whisonant
For Domino 8.5 + there is a new notes.ini setting to create i/o optimized transaction logs for platforms with a block size different than the default 512 bytes. The notes.ini variable is: Create_R85_Log=1. With notes.ini variables, also make sure you're using the Configuration Document to set these instead of directly in the notes.ini. Having told you where to get Domino Fixlists.. can someone now explain DB2 Fix Packs to me?
Tue, Sep 1st 2009 3:53p   Chris Whisonant
I was working on an ODBC/DECS/DB2 integration and was Googling for an error. Turns out I got a big chuckle at this technote. Question After upgrading your server to DB2 UDB Version 8.1 FixPak 10 (also known as Version 8.2 FixPak 3), you will encounter... I think that's all you need to read. Does anything stand out to you?? So are DB2 8.1 FP10 and DB2 8.2 FP3 the same release?? That's hilarious! And I thought there was confusion sometimes with Domino... How Do I Find Info On Notes and Domino Fixpacks?
Tue, Sep 1st 2009 10:40a   Chris Whisonant
After the release of Notes and Domino 8.5 Fixpack 1, there has been some concern expressed over customers and partners not being able to see the fixes at the devWorks fixlist site. If you go there currently, you can see the following releases listed: Notice that there are not any SPR's listed as fixed for 8.0.2 FP1, 8.0.2 FP2, 8.0.2 IFR1, 8.5 FP1, or 8.5 IFR1. Another Notes Client Goodie for 8.5.1
Wed, Aug 26th 2009 3:17p   Chris Whisonant
Another great addition for Notes Client usability is an easier way for users to create hyperlinks! Finally there is a quick way to do this! Previously, you would have to go through several menu levels or remember ALT+C+H+L and then fill in a properties box that may be confusing for the casual user. But in 8.5.1, this should be easier to accomplish. After selecting the text you would like to use for the link, you can either choose the Create > Hyperlink menu item: Or you can choose a tool [read] Keywords: lotus notes notes client bleedyellow bleedyellow.com properties

Some Notes Client Goodies for 8.5.1
Wed, Aug 26th 2009 9:57a   Chris Whisonant
There are two quick things I would like to highlight with the Lotus Notes 8.5.1 Client that's currently in beta. First of all is the ability to resize table columns from the rich text editor. I love using the "Copy Selected as Table" from within views and then pasting the table into a new memo. Then I like to do some formatting - which would always involve resizing the columns. With 8.5.0 and earlier, when I would want to do this I would have to open the Table Properties and then resize each ce [read] Keywords: lotus notes notes client rich text bleedyellow bleedyellow.com email properties

A little known ECL setting for Domino is "". In response to: Another problem with the document table map propertyChad, thanks for posting this information that I've personally seen happen (unfortunately it was on a NAB!). Thanks for letting us all know that this particular issue with the "Optimize document table map" property should be fixed in 8.0.3. Does this seem to happen more when the database is replicated with pre-8.0.2 servers? It seems that some of the customers in the forum (and my client as well) saw this issue when the database [read] Keywords: document bleedyellow bleedyellow.com database

ESV Study Bible Out This Week
Sat, Oct 11th 2008 10:51p   Chris Whisonant
The ESV Study Bible is now available for purchase online. It hit the stores on Wednesday, but you can pre-order it from the link above. I've been using this translation since it was first published in 2001. It's very readable, literal, and has taken advantage of many of the advances that the translators of the KJV desired to see so that their work of improvement on previous English translations would be still further improved. You can read from this version here. Go check out this Study Bible - [read] Keywords: application

Around this exact time of day 7 years ago I was sitting at work when my mom called to tell me that a plane just crashed into the World Trade Center. I thought she was crazy until I turned on Fox News in our server room and got my colleagues in there watching. Then hearing reports that the Pentagon was hit. Then the second plane hit the other tower and a plane crashed in Pennsylvania. Then the towers fell... It was really surreal and words can't describe it. Last year, I took the picture below. A Courageous Story
Mon, Sep 1st 2008 11:29p   Chris Whisonant
One of the few podcasts I listen to is Albert Mohler's, and he has a great blog too. Way back on May 6, 2008, he posted a blog titled Welcome to the World, Trig Paxson Van Palin about Governor Sarah Palin's pregnancy and the birth of her son with Down's Syndrome. I urge you to go read it and the AP article to which it links. She loves her baby boy and is proud of him. "I'm looking at him right now, and I see perfection," Palin told the Associated Press. "Yeah, he has an extra chromosome. I keep t [read] Keywords: php

Anti-Obamanomics
Sat, Aug 30th 2008 8:13p   Chris Whisonant
Just reading a good article at Mises.org titled: Anti-Obamanomics: Why Everyone Should Be in Favor of Reducing Taxes on the "Rich" Generally, the economists at the site don't post about particular candidates. But with so much focus on the election now, I urge you to go read some from it. It's actually a response to an article in the New York Times Magazine: Are the American people being primed to elect as President of the United States a home-grown version of Hugo Chavez, in the person of Barack [read] Keywords: administration formula policies
