The first Domino casualty with iPhone?
Lotus Nut

I just read this over at Kevin Hansen&os;s blog:
This month, an Exchange server will go live in our organization. It will be connected to Domino to allow us to deliver iPhone services to our corporate users. We have a number of iPhones requested from our user community and more are sure to come.
Somehow, I don&os;t believe this is they type of response to John Head&os;s "Call to Action" that was anticipated. Kevin also states that this will be opening the door for more use of Exchange in his company and some likely migrations from Notes mail for certain groups.

It was asked at Ed Brill&os;s blog if companies would seriously choose to move to Exchange just to support the iPhone - apparently the answer is yes. As I&os;m writing this, there are 367 signatures at the iPetition. This represents mobile users in the tens of thousands. Let us hope that more of these companies do not see more pressure to deliver push mail to iPhones.

I do believe that IBM is trying to get this all sorted with Apple - and much of it is out of IBM&os;s hands. I have tested and provided some feedback on Lotus iNotes Ultralite. I think it is a good interim solution for those who need access to Domino mail from an iPhone. But, I think we all agree that it does not provide the desired long-term solution we all want for push mail and pim sync.

Further, to reiterate what Ed said, none of us really know how the Exchange services are going to work on the iPhone. There has been past debate about whether Exchange Server with Windows Mobile devices actually provides "push" mail. So will the iPhone implementation of this be more of a constant pull than a push? (Not that end-users actually care - they just want instant access to mail...)

I do not want to keep this debate going, but with the knowledge now that there are companies considering Exchange implementations to do this, we should keep this in mind.

If youre thinking of implementing DAOS, do this first...
Wed, Feb 10th 2010 4:56p   Chris Whisonant
Actually, you may want to consider running this on your servers this weekend if you havent already implemented DAOS. Get it out of the way... :)br /ibr /load compact mail -c -ZU/i - While youre at it, throw in thei -v -n/i switches too to enable body and design compression. And make sure that youve enabled these settings in the advanced properties tab of the templates so that the compression options do not get turned back off by the design task.br /br /You should no longer use the i-ZU/i switch [read] Keywords: ibm properties

Easy Way To Manage ACL or Advanced Properties For a Folder (SNTT)
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 10:58a   Chris Whisonant
One of the nice tricks with the Domino Administrator Client Files tab is the ability to update ACLs and properties for all databases in a folder and sub-folders. To do this, just right-click the folder and choose from the list of available options. ikeyman Not Allowing 2048 bit keysize
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 10:58a   Chris Whisonant
Earlier today I was renewing the SSL certificate for BleedYellows IHS server. But I ran into a slight issue in that the IBM SSL Key Management utility (ikeyman) was only giving me the choice of 512 or 1024 bit key length. But now, 2 years later (wow, time flies!), GoDaddy requires 2048 or 4096 bit requests and does not accept a 1024 bit request. This is good to know, for sure! After a quick use of my google-fu, I was able to find a href=http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21304144th [read] Keywords: ibm application google server websphere

How To Speed Up Your Domino Server And Reduce Corruption
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 10:58a   Chris Whisonant
This is definitely an age-old recommendation, but it is something that most customers have problems with. OS-level Antivirus. IBM has finally published a technote (1417504) a href=http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21417504Recommendations for exclusions when running Operation (sic) System Antivirus/a. This will definitely be handy to be able to show a customer direct instructions from IBM and not quot;justquot; recommendations from a third party (who sees this all the time). img [read] Keywords: domino ibm lotus notes application bleedyellow bleedyellow.com database desktop security server

Don't forget to update transaction logging format in 8.5
Fri, Sep 25th 2009 12:00p   Chris Whisonant
For Domino 8.5 + there is a new notes.ini setting to create i/o optimized transaction logs for platforms with a block size different than the default 512 bytes. The notes.ini variable is: Create_R85_Log=1. With notes.ini variables, also make sure you're using the Configuration Document to set these instead of directly in the notes.ini. Having told you where to get Domino Fixlists.. can someone now explain DB2 Fix Packs to me?
Tue, Sep 1st 2009 3:53p   Chris Whisonant
I was working on an ODBC/DECS/DB2 integration and was Googling for an error. Turns out I got a big chuckle at this technote. Question After upgrading your server to DB2 UDB Version 8.1 FixPak 10 (also known as Version 8.2 FixPak 3), you will encounter... I think that's all you need to read. Does anything stand out to you?? So are DB2 8.1 FP10 and DB2 8.2 FP3 the same release?? That's hilarious! And I thought there was confusion sometimes with Domino... How Do I Find Info On Notes and Domino Fixpacks?
Tue, Sep 1st 2009 10:40a   Chris Whisonant
After the release of Notes and Domino 8.5 Fixpack 1, there has been some concern expressed over customers and partners not being able to see the fixes at the devWorks fixlist site. If you go there currently, you can see the following releases listed: Notice that there are not any SPR's listed as fixed for 8.0.2 FP1, 8.0.2 FP2, 8.0.2 IFR1, 8.5 FP1, or 8.5 IFR1. But there is a way to see what you need for your upgrade planning. You need to navigate to a somewhat hidden "notices" view at this UR [read] Keywords: document domino ibm ldd lotus notes notes client bleedyellow bleedyellow.com
