Two Minute Drills for Administrators
Chris Whisonant

It looks like my colleague Ted Hardenburgh gave an extremely helpful session at PACLUG this week. He presented "Two Minute Drills for Administrators" described as "A task or tool that can be used quickly to help an administrator get the job done." There are some very valuable tips in this session - both for the new and seasoned Lotus Administrators! Good stuff Ted!

Using Domino 9's DBMT For Failover Stability
Mon, May 13th 2013 1:50p   Chris Whisonant
I have encountered several large customers (usually running an IBM OS) who have had major issues with the stability of their cluster-mates during a failover scenario. My recommendation in the past has been using program documents with some updall tasks to keep the Inbox and All Documents indices fresh.* Usually, running this once per week helps. If you're still running Domino 8.5.3 or earlier, you may want to do this. After implementing this with one customer, they had no more issues with st [read] Keywords: domino ibm ldd lotus notes updall bleedyellow bleedyellow.com server

Less Log Clutter with Notes and Domino 9
Wed, Apr 24th 2013 12:19p   Chris Whisonant
As I was monitoring server tasks today with the Domino 9.0 Administrator Client, I saw something I haven't seen before. As you may know, when you are refreshing the Server > Status > Server Tasks section in the Admin Client, that output has historically been echoed back to log.nsf since show tasks debug is the background request sent to Domino. That generally amounts to multiple log documents created making it difficult to scan for the information you may actually need. But now the 9 [read] Keywords: admin domino ibm notes server

Take Advantage of New Compact Options With Domino 9
Tue, Apr 9th 2013 1:30p   Chris Whisonant
I have blogged about new compact options with 8.5.x previously, and now I would like to point out some new options with Domino 9.0. First of all, from what I can determine the options available with DEBUG_ENABLE_COMPACT_8_5=1 are now available out-of-the-box with 9.0. By setting that parameter to =0 and issuing a load compact -?, the options from that parameter are all still valid. Another configuration parameter you should set is MailFileDisableCompactAbort=1. This will prevent the router f [read] Keywords: domino bleedyellow bleedyellow.com database server

Our session slides are available, and what I learned in our session at IBM Connect '13

Mitch posted the details about this, but I learned that we should not refer to Traveler HA Servers as being in a "traveler cluster" as this can be confusing. They should instead be referred to as "Traveler HA Pools." It definitely makes sense to refer to the Traveler HA Pool in this way. Thanks for the clarification, Smith! Also, our slide deck has been posted at SlideShare.net. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. [read] Keywords: ibm traveler

Mon, Dec 10th 2012 6:09a   Chris Whisonant
This year I am pleased to be presenting again with Mitch Cohen at IBM Connect 2013! It's been a few years since I last presented, and I am looking forward to presenting, especially with Mitch! Our session title is: "Making Traveler Highly Available: Part 1 Traveler Design" So, you have IBM Notes Traveler deployed in your organization. Deployed quickly, easily and at minimal cost to you. Of course now is has become mission critical and that’s your problem but with Upgrade P [read] Keywords: ibm lotus notes traveler network security

After 6 Years A Possible Answer to a Blog Post
Fri, Oct 26th 2012 12:08p   Chris Whisonant
Over 6 years ago I blogged about what I believed to be a bug in Domino SMTP routing. It is something that has cropped up for me randomly over the years as well, but without a real solution. Sometimes restarting the router would clear things up and sometimes just a tell router update config would do the trick. Back in 2006, I asked "Should mail routing not look up to the mail routing (MX) records for resolution instead of just looking up to the DNS A record?" Today, I see that IBM is tracking [read] Keywords: domino ibm bug smtp

IBM Connections 3.0.1 Fixpack 1 Available
Fri, Mar 16th 2012 10:10a   Chris Whisonant
Looks like Connections 3.0.1.1 is finally hitting FixCentral! I'm hoping some oddities we've seen will be corrected. Timely enough, I'm just finishing up a 3.0.1 installation and am loading this fixpack now! The fixpack file (3.0.1.0-LC-Multi-IFLC3011_FP) is a 0.97 GB download. In order to actually install it, when you add it as a repository to the Installation Manager you have to add ".zip" to the end of the filename. Then it appears to know what to do and update properly. Chrome Broken With IBM Connections
Mon, Jan 9th 2012 3:10p   Chris Whisonant
Recently, we've had some internal people receiving the following issue when downloading from Connections Files: Duplicate headers received from server The response from the server contained duplicate headers. This problem is generally the result of a misconfigured website or proxy. As I started to dig into it further, I have found that with Google Chrome 16.0.912.75 (the latest stable release as of today), others are receiving the same error when using other non-IBM products. The Irony in IBM Error Messages...
