IBM 2012 CEO Study: Mobile Changes Everything!
Tue, May 22nd 2012 11:04a   Christopher Pepin
IBM has released its annual CEO study which includes input from 1,700 CEO's worldwide. Of particular interest for me is the impact of mobility. A few quotes from the paper: "..convergence of the digital, social and mobile spheres — connecting customers, employees and partners in new ways to organizations and to each other" "..customers are increasingly mobile, organizations must be active there too, ready to engage in the context of the moment" "Smart, mobile devices are pervasive [read] Keywords: collaboration ibm blogger mobile

The developer preview was released last September, consumer preview was made available this past February and the release preview is targeted for June. The key focus of Windows 8 is merging the desktop and tablet experience and is Microsoft's response to the iPad. Kindle Fire Review - Thumbs up!
Sun, May 13th 2012 7:24p   Christopher Pepin
A few weeks ago, Amazon had Kindle Fire refurbished units on sale for $139. At this price, the offer to pickup the most popular Android tablet was too good to pass up and I purchased one. While far from perfect, the Fire is a capable Android tablet. The Apple iPad, however, has nothing to fear. I own multiple tablets including the latest iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, BlackBerry PlayBook and I previously reviewed the Lenovo tablet. The IBM Managed Security Services team published a new infographic on mobile security challenges. The increase in "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) and consumerization of IT is driving an increase in the number of smartphones and tablets in the enterprise. It is important that the enterprise establish a policy for addressing lost or stolen devices. Common techn [read] Keywords: ibm apple application blogger desktop enterprise mobile password security

Thu, Aug 25th 2011 3:42p   Christopher Pepin
"iPad in the Enterprise" is geared towards IT staff looking to deploy Apple iPad for business. Key topics include: strategy, architecture, design, development and deployment. The first few chapters are high-level and address the mobile landscape, consumerization of IT and the need for an enterprise strategy. Later sections go into greater technical detail including code samples. The sections generally stand on their own making this book great as a reference manual. Happy Birthday IBM PC!
Fri, Aug 12th 2011 1:22p   Christopher Pepin
Today, August 12, marks the 30th anniversary of the IBM PC 5150. I'm proud to remember using this machine to learn BASIC programming (along with my TRS80 Color Computer). Much has changed in 30 years since the IBM PC was introduced and arguably, much has changed just in the in the last 16 months since Apple introduced the iPad. While the iPad wasn't the first tablet computer, it's certainly the most popular in history. Many believe, including IBM's Mark Dean, that we're in the "post-P [read] Keywords: ibm apple blogger

I've been testing an AT&T Samsung Infuse Android 4G smartphone for a few weeks now and, it's a solid smartphone phone. It has a very large, beautiful 4.5 inch screen and like most Samsung smartphones, it's extremely thin and light. Amazon Kindle impressions - thumbs up!
Mon, Jul 18th 2011 11:02a   Christopher Pepin
I returned from a week-long vacation to Fire Island and Montauk (Long Island) and I took my new Amazon Kindle (generation 2) along. I purchased it in May from Woot.com as the deal of the day - only $89 (refurbished). With the summer and vacations, I have some time to catch up on my reading and the Kindle is a great device. While a tablet like the iPad is more versatile, it does a poor job in direct sunlight like the pool or beach - where I do most of my reading. In addition, I'd much rathe [read] Keywords: blogger

Last week, Google released its long-anticipated social network and FaceBook competitor - Google+. It's an interesting mix of innovation, elegant user interface, geek-features and duplication of other services. I've been using it for a few days now and so far it shows promise. Will it force a mass-migration from FaceBook? At Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) which kicked off earlier today in San Francisco, Apple publicly announced iOS 5 - the next major revision of the operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch which is due out this fall. The IPEVO is a camera which takes a picture of the smartphone or tablet screen and displays it on the PC or Mac using software that comes with the camera. Once displayed on the PC, you can display it on an overhea [read] Keywords: apple applications blogger mac wiki

Mon, Jan 3rd 2011 1:03p   Christopher Pepin

Arguably, 2010 was the year of Google Android and new phone activations grew from 30,000 a day in January to over 300,000 a day in December.
