IBM Mobile Enterprise Social Media Residency

I spent an exciting week with my IBM colleagues from around the world at the Mobile Enterprise Social Media Residency in Raleigh, North Carolina last week. Sponsored by IBM International Technical Support Organization, the same team that creates RedBooks, the residency focused on leveraging external social media tools like Twitter, blogs, LinkedIn and YouTube to demonstrate thought leadership on the subject of mobile enterprise.   IBM offers a rich set of mobile products and services designed to assist clients deliver on the promise of becoming a mobile business.

In addition to IBM's strong social media presence today via @IBMMobile on Twitter, IBMMobileEnterprise on YouTube, IBMMobile on LinkedIn and countless others, IBM will be creating a new blog dedicated to mobile - similar to the Thoughts on Cloud blog.   Along with my colleagues, I'll be blogging on the new site when it goes live early next year.  Stay tuned for details!

Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2014 Summary
Fri, Jul 18th 2014 4:25p   Christopher Pepin
I attended the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) earlier this week in Washington D.C and I wanted to take this opportunity to share my impressions. An annual event, this year's conference had over 16,000 attendees who earn their living from selling Microsoft-based solutions. The highlight of the conference was a passionate, vision keynote from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. This was my first time attending the Microsoft partner conference as part the IBM MobileFirst team which incl [read] Keywords: ibm apple application applications community email enterprise google microsoft mobile office skype twitter

Android for Work announced at Google IO conference
Fri, Jul 11th 2014 12:25p   Christopher Pepin
The initial releases of Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone were aimed squarely at consumers and offered few if any features geared to business users. However, all that's changed in the last few years with the growth of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and Corporate Owned, Personally Enabled (COPE). Increasingly, users want to access both work and personal information from a single mobile device (AOL CEO Tim Armstong's three smartphones: Android, iOS and BlackBerry not withstanding) Jump forwar [read] Keywords: apple blackberry enterprise google microsoft mobile network

Travel made easier with mobile applications
Mon, Jun 16th 2014 4:45a   Christopher Pepin
I travel regularly for business and personal and the use of mobile technologies has dramatically improved the overall experience. As I author this blog post, I am in the middle of a two-and-a-half week business trip throughout Asia Pacific including Singapore, Thailand, Australia and the Philippines and I can't imagine making the trip without a smartphone. Here are a few of my favorite mobile applications for travel: Travel plans: TripIt. Earlier this week, I attended the Good Exchange conference in New York City. I had the pleasure of speaking on IBM MobileFirst including best practices of mobile leaders as well as moderating a panel on mobile migrations. Apple expands iOS 8 Enterprise Support at WWDC
Mon, Jun 2nd 2014 2:32p   Christopher Pepin
Earlier today, Apple kicked off their annual World Wide Developer's Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco. During the keynote session, Apple CEO Tim Cook and team provided details on the upcoming version of OS/X and iOS. Of particular interest to me are the new enterprise features in iOS 8. Last year, Apple introduced a wealth of enterprise features in iOS 7 and iOS 8, due out this fall, didn't disappoint. With over 4,000 new API's, iOS 8 is poised to be one of the largest upgrades yet. Divide is joining Google and looking ahead to Apple WWDC
Fri, May 30th 2014 10:08a   Christopher Pepin
On May 19, Divide announced that they were being acquired by Google. Given the integration of Divide with IBM Endpoint Manager, I'm very familiar with the solution and used it on my smartphone to access IBM work data. Divide is a mobile container solution and the Divide secure workspace provides separation between personal and work data. One of things I liked most about Divide was that my mobile device no longer required a device password and I only got prompted to enter a password when I acce [read] Keywords: ibm apple enterprise google integration mobile password security workspace

National Engineers Week 2014
Thu, May 8th 2014 7:05p   Christopher Pepin
I participated in National Engineer's week at my home town middle school with my IBM colleagues. IBM is a sponsor of the yearly event which is designed to increase awareness of math and science and foster teamwork and creative thinking. This was my fifth year participating in the event. However, due to schedule conflicts, I wasn't able to participate since 2011 and I was looking forward to this year's event. Our seven member IBM team taught nine 7th and 8th grade science classes.
