Jobs reveals an IOS4 update
Mon, Aug 23rd 2010 7:16a   Craig Wiseman
From The Inquirer: Jobs reveals an IOS4 update By Nick Farrell Mon Aug 23 2010, 10:39 AND IT IS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK of Jobs that the people of Steve were perplexed at IOS4 for it did not do what was written on the packet for the users of the less than holy Iphone 3G. They did moan and vex that IOS4 was a pile of dog poo, "dog slow", and not worthy of the Apple label. And so Steve did go up the mountain to tell God what he must do next and lo he did come back down the mountain having t [read] Keywords: apple iphone

You know you’re from Louisana when...
Wed, Aug 18th 2010 12:17p   Craig Wiseman
I've been working on this list for some time (please suggest any additions!) . I posted a version of this a while ago. You know you're from Louisiana when You look both ways before crossing a one way street. When a truck drives by spraying poisonous chemicals into the air, you don't call the EPA. You happily/maniacally think, "Die Mosquitos, DIE." You take advantage of the fact your license plate lets you use the handicap spots when visiting other states. This makes you cry. IBM, Lotus, Microsoft, et al - Here’s a PROPER upgrade dialog box progress bar: Steal THIS UI idea!
Wed, Aug 18th 2010 1:17a   Craig Wiseman
This evening, I'm upgrading a modern operating system, and it displays the progress bar below. What's important here? It gives you two (equally) important bits of information: A) What the install's doing at the moment, and; B) Where we are in the overall install process. I know this goes against the "give the user flashy dialogs that distract them and don't tell them where they are in the install" meme, but you really really need to go (back) to this. I'm in a grumpy mood this week, I guess. For some reason, this post by Serdar Basegmez just resonated with me. I have a bunch of ideas over there. Here's a link to my ideas over there. I used to try and come up with ones that would improve IBM's product and address real issues that I see day-to-day at client sites. You may not be aware of this, but IBM is a for-profit company. That means that it owns Notes, Domino, Portal, Connections, etc. and makes money selling licenses and (more import [read] Keywords: admin agent collaboration connections domino expeditor ibm inotes lotus lotusphere notes notes client odf policies quickr rich text roaming sametime symphony traveler ajax apple application applications archiving archive blogger blogging citrix community database desktop email exchange exchange facebook google ideajam ideajam.net integration iphone java microsoft mobile office openntf openoffice outlook password planetlotus planetlotus.org profile properties security server widgets wiki workspace

Re: Lotus Knows suggestion - the Swiss Army Knife approach
Mon, Jul 26th 2010 2:35p   Craig Wiseman
Mr. Osborne makes an excellent and reasonable suggestion - sell/market Lotus Notes/Domino for what it is: A Swiss Army knife-like "can do just about everything pretty well" platform. One key problem that I see is that there is no clear agreement across IBM that this is the case. Or even within Lotus, for that matter. In fact, I'll use pictures (like Mr. Osborne) to explain: [read] Keywords: domino ibm lotus notes

File Protection issue installing Domino upgrades fixpacks on Windows Server 2008 R2?
Thu, Jul 22nd 2010 11:04a   Craig Wiseman
So you've got your new Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit, 16GB RAM server all ready to go. You install Lotus Domino 8.5.1 (64bit). Being a good admin, you then try and install FP3 (and eventually hotfixes, etc). The FixPack install has issues, though: Because it can't rename the file on each file it wants to update. This is because in Windows 7+, you have an manually grant permission to rename these kinds of files. The only solution I found was (as you can see from the screen [read] Keywords: admin domino ibm lotus server

Geauxjira - Godzilla of the Gulf
Sat, May 22nd 2010 4:19p   Craig Wiseman
Geauxjira is a brief homage to some famous scenes in Ishiro Honda's movie Gojira (1954), better known in English as Godzilla. Whereas Godzilla was created from nuclear explosions, Geauxjira is a giant crawfish spawned by leaking crude oil. On April 21st, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded off the coast of Louisiana. Eleven people perished in the explosion. As we made our movie, thousands of barrels of oil leaked every day on the Gulf of Mexico's floor, causing the biggest environmental [read] Keywords: application
