Make XPages work for you (or RRAD development)
Darren Duke

Courtesy for Paul Calhoun over on the XPages blog, transform all your crappy old Notes forms into shiny, happy XPages. Brilliant stuff.

http://xpagesblog.com/xpages-blog/2009/7/23/transforming-domino-forms-into-xpages-via-xslt.html

Really Rapid Application Development (RRAD). And with XPages coming to the client in 8.5.1 (you know it is true) it is time for a Spring....erm....Fall cleanup of all your apps.

My first OpenNTF project QuickrD License Tracker - please don’t hurt me
Sat, Mar 13th 2010 2:25p   Darren Duke
That's right, release candidate 1 (RC1) of the QuickrD License and User Tracker tool. It has been released as LGPL v3 licenses so all are free to download, change and distribute. Since the inception of Quickr is has been extremely difficult to manage the number of licenses an organization requires. This is especially true if you also have "external" users accessing your places. There will be issues (and these will be fixed), but it has been tested on Quickr 8.2 on Windows and iSeries. My Domino on VMware presentation from todays ATLUG
Thu, Mar 11th 2010 6:24p   Darren Duke
This is a slightly updated one to the one I gave at GLUG a while back. Warning, it is just a technical as the prior version, so enter at your own risk...... Thanks to everyone who turned out (and it was pretty large). Next quarter is the mighty Bruce Elgort of Eljugi Software, The 1352 Report, The Taking Notes podcast and the XPages Blog. Come out and see one the "jaundice bubble" luminaries, live and in person. Anyway, enough grovelling to Bruce, here's the presentation..... Rumor has it that Jon Bon Jovi I will be presenting and it is almost sold out. Except it is free, so I'm not sure what that means. There is still time to register and it will be held at the IBM Lakeside/Riverside building in NW Atlanta from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Contact Randy Davison to register. Lunch will be kindly provided by IBM. Come say hello if you are there. No need to run away once I stop speaking ;) [read] Keywords: domino ibm vmware

8.5.1 FP1 Interim Fix 1 (IF1) flash includes important DAOS fixes - except it is NOT available
Wed, Mar 10th 2010 8:05p   Darren Duke
Everyone and their dog has been posting about 8.5.1 FP1 IF1 tech note 1423520 over on Planet Lotus. But there is a big issue with this flash. I can't find the files on IBM Fix Central. Indeed, 8.5.1 is not even listed as a product in Fix Central. So....... [read] Keywords: ibm lotus planet lotus planetlotus planetlotus.org

Symantec adds support for Domino 8.5.1 to Backup Exec 2010
Wed, Mar 3rd 2010 8:45a   Darren Duke
To be honest, I didn't even know it wasn't supported. With the application of hot fix 339930 this "support" is addressed, see http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/339930.htm for more information. Remember to update any agents too. Joy! [read] Keywords: domino application

The very un-scientific look at transaction logging on Domino - part 2 - a real world server
Wed, Feb 24th 2010 5:24a   Darren Duke
In my earlier post, A very un-scientific look at transaction logging in Domino I'd speculated about the Database.RM.Logger.IO Domino statistics. As I'd mentioned right at the bottom of that post (and Richard also did in a comment) IO.Avg.Write.Time is probably more likely the statistic you need for production and not necessarily IO.Max.Write.Time. We'll look at both statistics for a server that has few users ( [read] Keywords: domino lotus protector database email security server

Like many others before me, a review of the IBM Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.1 - The Upgrader’s Guide
Tue, Feb 16th 2010 7:28p   Darren Duke
First the disclaimer, I received this e-book for free from the publisher Packt Publishing . I hope this in no way affects my opinion. Not sure why I was asked, I have trouble stringing 5 sentences together for a blog entry, but it did stroke my ego quite a bit ;) Oh, and I hate ebooks....I read on the toilet and while planes are taking off or landing! Kindle is what you start a fire with. Anyway enough TMI, on with the show.... A very un-scientific look at transaction logging in Domino
Tue, Feb 16th 2010 7:47a   Darren Duke
Below are Domino console screen captures of two servers. They are pretty much identical: Both are 32 bit Domino on Windows running 8.5 FP1 Both are running Quickr 8.2 FP9 Both are transaction logged with circular, 4GB logging Both are running in vSphere 4 U1 servers Both servers have no load other than clustering to each other (the screen shot was taken at 4:30am, so I'm pretty sure. No load. Both have been up for about 20 minutes. Having said all of that, note the database.rm.logger.io.max.wr [read] Keywords: domino quickr database server
