CentOS Linux - Reading AND Writing NTFS

I had a bit of an "Ooops" moment yesterday, when I had  an urgent need to share some virtual machines with a colleague; Active Directory 2003 and DB2 UDB /  IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator.

Having converted them from VirtualBox to VMware ( more on this in another post ), I went to write them to his USB drive ....

Ah, his drive is formatted with NTFS because he uses Windows .....

... and my USB drive is formatted with HFS+ because I use it with Linux and Mac ....

Thankfully, a quick Google search helped me add NTFS support to CentOS: -

RPMforge for CentOS 6.0

$ wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.i686.rpm
rpm --import http://apt.sw.be/RPM-GPG-KEY.dag.txt
$ rpm -K rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.*.rpm
$ rpm -i rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.*.rpm
$ yum -y install ntfs-3g

I've used NTFS-3G and MacFUSE on the OSX Lion box, but this is the first time I've tried it with CentOS.

Nice one :-)

IBM Integration Bus 9.0.0.2 - Tooling Up
Mon, Sep 15th 2014 4:05a   Dave Hay
My ongoing journey with IBM Integration Bus continues: - Installing IBM Integration Bus 9.0.0.2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 I've now got the Toolkit installed and running on RHEL63. Unlike WMQ and IIB, the Toolkit is installed using IBM Installation Manager. The first thing I had to do was to update IIM from 1.6.0 to 1.6.2+ as I previously had: - com.ibm.cic.agent_1.6.0.20120831_1216 I actually updated to 1.7.2: - com.ibm.cic.agent_1.7.2000.20140227_0303 ( thanks to BPM 8.5.5 disk 2 ( BP [read] Keywords: ibm eclipse enterprise integration linux profile red hat websphere

IBM BPM 8.5 - Groups and Caches
Wed, Sep 10th 2014 4:45a   Dave Hay
This follows an earlier post: - IBM BPM Standard 7.5.1.1 - Updating the Group Cache where I reported that, for BPM 7.5.1.1, it was an easy matter to reset the GroupCache in Process Admin, in order to have some WAS groups appear inside the User Management > Group Management view ( in order to allow me to assign WAS groups to BPM roles such as tw_admins and tw_authors ). So I've followed the same path for BPM Advanced 8.5.0.1 ( Process Center AND Process Server ) here. I created a bunch of new [read] Keywords: admin ibm server

Installing IBM Integration Bus 9.0.0.2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3
Mon, Sep 8th 2014 9:49a   Dave Hay
This is part of my ongoing journey towards mastery relative understanding of integration, using IBM WebSphere MQ, IBM Integration Bus and IBM Business Process Manager. I've got some further experience of WMQ after the past few weeks: - Installing IBM WebSphere MQ on Linux IBM WebSphere MQ - (l)user error with amqsput and clustered Queue Managers so am revisiting IIB ( having played briefly with WebSphere Message Broker a while back ): - IBM WebSphere Message Broker 8.0.1 - Getting started Insta [read] Keywords: ibm application database db2 enterprise integration linux profile properties red hat server websphere

iTunes to iPad - An unknown error occurred (-50)
Mon, Sep 8th 2014 7:09a   Dave Hay
I saw this: - An unknown error occurred (-50) from an iPad Mini whilst trying to sync, via USB, from iTunes 11.3.1 on my Mac. Thankfully, a few Google searches later, I performed the most minor of resets - General > Reset > Reset All Settings, which appears to have cleared the problem. I did, it must be said, have an iTunes backup of the little fella, just in case :-) [read] Keywords: google mac

Enabling X11 on a console-only installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3
Fri, Sep 5th 2014 1:46p   Dave Hay
So I wanted to use X11 on my RHEL63 VM in order to install/use the WebSphere MQ Toolkit ( see earlier post ), but got this: - X11 forwarding request failed on channel 0 when I attempted to connect and tunnel X11 from my Mac ( I'm using XQuartz as per this 2013 post ): - ssh -X mqm@bam8012.uk.ibm.com I did a quick smoke-test: - xeyes -bash: xeyes: command not found echo $DISPLAY I fixed the first problem: - yum install xeyes Loaded plugins: product-id, security, subscription-manager Updating [read] Keywords: ibm enterprise google linux mac red hat security server vm websphere

IBM WebSphere MQ - (l)user error with amqsput and clustered Queue Managers
Fri, Sep 5th 2014 1:26p   Dave Hay
So I've spent nearly four hours, working with a much more experienced ( with WebSphere MQ ) colleague, trying to diagnose an issue. In essence, I was trying to test the connectivity between WebSphere MQ ( WMQ ) and IBM BPM, and had configured BPM ( actually WAS ) to connect to a WMQ Queue Manager / Queue via an Activation Specification. I had a sample Message Driven Bean (MDB) ( taken from this White Paper Using WebSphere MQ V7 as JMS Provider for WebSphere Application Server V7, V8.0 and V8.5 [read] Keywords: ibm application server websphere

Insufficient ulimit -u (NPROC) Value Contributes to Native OutOfMemory
Wed, Sep 3rd 2014 2:05p   Dave Hay
I've hit this problem several times in the past few days, mainly on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 platforms: - ...An out of memory may be observed on a system running WebSphere Application Server on Linux. Further investigation may reveal a "Failed to create a thread:" message within the generated javacore which would indicate a native out of memory issue has been encountered. The cause of the problem may be an insufficient ulimit setting.
