I found something.... Code Syntax Highlighting
Thu, Mar 18th 2010 11:32a   David Leedy
The other day I found a link to this site that has a jQuery plug in for Code Syntax highlighting. Now we've had LotusScript syntax highlighting for a while with Julian Robichaux's great LS2HTML code, but that's written in LotusScript and this is jQuery and MIGHT have better potential to integrate with XPages or Wiki's. (Have you wiki'd today?) LotusScript is NOT on the list yet, but I emailed the person and he's willing to add it for us I think. I just need to try and tell him [read] Keywords: lotusscript xpages wiki

Wiki Madness - Free as never been easier
Wed, Mar 17th 2010 1:57p   David Leedy
Marcus Foerster has just added another article to "WikiMadness". It's a really good article called "Why cells sometimes cannot be merged in Notes Designer". There's nothing really fancy here. It's a simple little "heads up" on working with tables in designer. Many of those reading my blog already know this I'm sure. However, somewhere, out there, there's someone that does NOT know why this happens. And that's the point of the Wiki Madness Event - to get more information fro [read] Keywords: ldd lotus lotusphere notes application blogSphere ipod mobile podcast taking notes wiki

Watch out for the Wiki Gotchas
Tue, Mar 2nd 2010 1:03p   David Leedy
If you're posting code on the wikis be careful. I talked to a couple who were having problems. If the code you're posting has a $ in it then you need to escape it by putting a \ in front if it: \$ If the code you're posting as a pipe "|" in it then you need to mark this for "No Wiki Markup" by using three {} on each side. {{{|}}} That should fix any problems. 2 Years ago Ed Brill teased us with this post which showed an iPod branded for Lotus Notes. Better pictures are available on colorware.com. Go to the gallery, and filter for iPod touch. (Do not try and filter by IBM/Lenovo - doesn't work). Man would I love to get one of these some day.... iPod... iPhone even better. Wouldn't it be nice to find one in the Lotus Store in two weeks? It was a very Lotus Christmas
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 11:01a   David Leedy
This year for Christmas Becky, my wonderful wife, gave me a much needed new laptop bag. My old one was just too small for me. It could carry the laptop but not much else. As much as I wanted a bigger bag, I hated to give my current one up because she had "tricked" it out with a Notes icon and my website address. As usual, she thinks of everything. She made new patches for the websites and Notes Icon that I had before. But a big surprise was the new patches that she made. She made p [read] Keywords: lotus lotusphere notes laptop

So the other day I was sitting at my computer pretty much minding my own business and the most interesting thing happened to me. I had 2 sametime windows pop up almost at the exact "same time". The first was from Joyce @ IBM asking my to speak at today's Technical Community call. That was for 2-3 minutes about my efforts with the Lotus community. That went pretty well I think. XPages in Pictures - 9 - Show Single Category
Wed, Jul 29th 2009 7:57a   David Leedy
The next feature to add to the application is a way to display all contacts from the current company page. The key difference here is that you want to filter the contacts to only show the contacts for the particular company that you’re currently viewing. There are some new ways to do this in Xpages, like a repeat control, but here I’m going to use a view control again. This will work just like the Notes client when a view is embedded on a form set to show single category. [read] Keywords: designer notes notes client xpages application properties

To me, trying to learn XPages is like eating Hot Peppers. It’s fun and exciting, but there’s serious pain involved. Right now my pain is in learning how to do “simple” things in XPages. What I intend to do is to start sharing the few things that I’ve learned so far. Hopefully this helps someone else starting to look into XPages. This will probably be more on the basic end compared to some of the other examples out there. XPages in 8.5.1 Client? Uhh Maybe Not...
Tue, Jan 20th 2009 8:52a   David Leedy
The other day I made a post after getting out a session with Maureen Leland. One of the questions asked what when is it coming to the client? And she had said 8.5.1. I even asked the guy next to me if I hear it right and he said yep! Well today at the BOF with the developers some said asked the XPages in the client question and someone said that it's coming but there's not commitment on time frame. What? I followed up the question what I heard early they they said that might ha [read] Keywords: lotusphere xpages

Lotusphere Opening General Session
Mon, Jan 19th 2009 6:54p   David Leedy
I'm sitting in at the session. Lights everywhere... loud music blaring... has the feel of a rock concert. Biggest screens on the stage that I ever saw!!! I wonder if you could hook up a Playstation? I don't know if I'll be live blogging as other people we'll be doing that. But I might be updating this page with anything really interesting to me. Stay tuned [read] Keywords: lotusphere blogging

Lotusphere - An Apple a Day
Mon, Jan 19th 2009 7:52a   David Leedy
On Sunday I went to a bunch of sessions. I found it really interesting that in every session except one, the speakers were using an Apple computer. I think they were all independent consultants. The one session that was not running on an Apple? Maureen Leland and her partner Maire Kehoe (Pronounced "Mory" I think). They had ThinkPads. They are the developers of the Designer client. Too bad they're not on Apple - maybe we'd have a native designer by now. I wonder if we should [read] Keywords: designer ibm lotusphere apple mac

XPages in 8.5.1 Client!!!!
Sun, Jan 18th 2009 6:52p   David Leedy
I was just in the XPages jumpstart with Maureen Leland and Maire Hehoe and someone asked the question when XPages would be in the Notes Client and she said that she JUST got confirmation that it would go in with 8.5.1. She said that we'd finally be able to develop once for both the web and notes client!!! I'm beyond excited about XPages in general and the fact that the client will come next. But of course she didn't say when..... Great job to Maureen,Maire and everyone else t [read] Keywords: notes notes client xpages

JSON and AJAX Jump Start
Sun, Jan 18th 2009 10:52a   David Leedy
I just finished with Scott Good's JSON and AJAX jumpstart. I've seen Scott speak many times at the Advisor Conferences. One of the great things about him is that he's not only does he just exude energy, but you can tell that he's really passionate about the subject. The session was really all about JSON and a data store and using it in conjunction with AJAX principals to make your website "POP". The core of JSON I think is using Javascript arrays with named pairs. To me - not rea [read] Keywords: designer domino javascript lotusphere lotusscript xpages ajax

BALD and Beyond
Sun, Jan 18th 2009 7:54a   David Leedy
Yesterday was the annual BALD event. I was very happy to meet such a great group of people there! Too many names to mention, I don't want to risk missing anyone. But I wanted to thank everybody for being so nice! Probably the best lesson learned is that the networking comes first and sessions come second. Today comes the start of the Sessions. For me the focus is xPages, xPages and then maybe some xPages! oh yeah! Finding my was around this maze will also be a priority! [read] Keywords: lotusphere xpages networking

xPages at 30,000 Feet
Sat, Jan 17th 2009 3:52p   David Leedy
I'm in the airplane, flying at 30,000 from Philly to Orlando and I'm really working on xPages for the first time. Let me tell you something... I'm LOVING IT!!!!! All I have under my belt is the beginning Developer Works article that Chris Toohey wrote. I read it the other day and walked through the exercise. I printed it out so I can refer to it if need be but haven't needed to yet. I guess I would describe working with xPages as very "Natural" feeling. How to find me - The Old Fashioned ANALOG method!
Thu, Jan 15th 2009 7:51p   David Leedy
I've been reading about all these high tech ways of finding people... and like a lot of people I've loaded Brightkite onto my iPhone and will try and use that. I'm taking my Macbook with and will try and do some live or semi-live blogging. Since this is my first trip I'm not too sure how laptop friendly the famous Lotusphere bags are so I'll probably have my own that my wife "embellished". Somehow I think it'll fit in. Reminder: Planet Lotus Blogger of the Year
Mon, Jan 12th 2009 9:58p   David Leedy
I just wanted to remind everyone to vote for the blog/blogger of the year over at Planet Lotus.com. For an extra incentive to vote, and as means to donate to "the cause" I got my wife, who has a small engraving/custom product business, to make an award for the winner. I asked her to make it look like a "Domino". The winner will receive this plaque. She'll engrave the winner's name and website on it and I'll get it to Yancy for the BALD event. Let's end the voting at 1 [read] Keywords: domino lotus lotusphere blogger planet lotus planetlotus planetlotus.org

Notes 8.5 on the Mac!
Tue, Jan 6th 2009 7:55a   David Leedy
Like many people I started downloading 8.5 as soon as I could. The first thing that I grabbed was the 8.5 client for the Apple Mac! Finally a gold native version for the Mac!!! I tried installing it over top of one of the 8.5 betas and it did not seem to like that. I'd click on the icon and see a flash - but then nothing. Maybe I need to reboot or first uninstall it. No time before to mess before I'm off to work.. I then installed it on a Mac that never had Notes before, and [read] Keywords: designer lotus notes apple mac vmware

Hidden Mickey? What about Hidden Lotus?
Fri, Jan 2nd 2009 11:54a   David Leedy
I'm getting ready for my first trip to Lotusphere. I've been to other events like the Advisor and View Conferences over the years, but I've never made it to Lotusphere. One of the reasons for this is that my family is a repeat Disney group. I've got a 5 year old boy and 8 year old girl and was never a big fan of taking them to the beach in diapers, so we started going to Disney. Now we're vacation club members and go down almost yearly. Maybe the beach would have been better in [read] Keywords: lotus lotusphere lotusphere2009 xpages

Paying Homage to the Lotus Notes User Interface
Mon, Dec 22nd 2008 3:52a   David Leedy
I think it's been mentioned before that the main interface for the iPhone, possibly the most popular smart phone of all time, looks very similar to the Notes Workspace. I think you can have 8 pages of applications. The icons for the applications are movable within the page and to other pages - just like the Notes Workspace. Sure it would be nice if in the Notes client you could have a full graphic for the database "box". But the concept between the iPhone home screen and the Notes wor [read] Keywords: lotus notes notes client apple application applications database interface iphone workspace

Christmas Games
Sat, Dec 20th 2008 5:51p   David Leedy
I'm not sure where we came up with it, but last year the family started playing a came where we would look for Christmas Trees on cars and get points for them. We'd try to see who got the most trees. The rules are relatively simple. The tree MUST by on or in the car. Today we were out and drove by a a tree lot and saw a tree getting ready to go - but it wasn't on the car yet. The first one to call it gets the point. We've since expanded it to included some recognition for [read] Keywords:

I wanted to blog about this when it happened, but quite frankly it's more an admin topic then development so I quickly got distracted with something and forgot all about it. Whoops! A couple of weeks ago we had a problem with receiving e-mail from the Internet. Very quickly the problem became we couldn't receive ANY e-mail from the outside. Computed for Display? Not Always...
Tue, Dec 2nd 2008 8:51p   David Leedy
I don't know if it has always been like this or if something changed in the Notes Client, I'm using 8.0.2, but I had a pretty frustrating couple of hours working with Computed for Display (CFD) fields of all things. I was pretty much minding my own business and adding some CFD's to do some calculations like difference and percent difference, and when I would look at the form with data in it, my expected results did NOT appear. Openlog and Worst Practice?
Wed, Nov 12th 2008 7:51a   David Leedy
I'm a big fan of Openlog. The error trapping database that you can find on OpenNTF.org. I've been using it for YEARS... Trapping errors and recoding log messages from agents. Julian did a fantastic job with this application. Or did he? One of the things that has bothered me about OpenLog is that it never sent me e-mail alerts. I always figured it was something simple but never really found the time to check it. Until Monday that is. Craig Schumann posted an article on the TeamStudio blog, http://www.governancefornotes.com/blog/governanceblog.nsf/d6plinks/TBAN-7HGPB5, where he talks about their product, CIAO, which stands for "Check In And Out". He's asking for feedback from people who like it and people who dislike it. Put me down in the I like it camp. Actually, even though I'm in a 2 person Notes shop, and we're rarely, if ever, working on the same database at the same time, I love CIAO!! YellowDay Tip - Rulers and Tables
Mon, Aug 11th 2008 7:54a   David Leedy
Like many people I'll often use tables on my Notes forms to control the look and feel. Typically, I'll spend a fair amount of time in the tables property box getting it "just right". I'll always set some padding on the row and column spacing, though I don't know if there's an "optimum" setting for this. But padding's important to show separation and to let your fields and labels "stand out" a little bit. The other thing the I'll do is set the width for any columns. Is Lotus cheating?
Thu, Jul 24th 2008 10:05p   David Leedy
I saw Mary Beth's recent post on the NotesDesignBlog regarding the User Experience Guidelines, and immediately downloaded the PDF to check it out. But as I started to read it I saw something that just kinda bothered me a little... In item 1.6.2 the guide discusses the style used for the action bar. What I don't like is that using Domino Designer you can't actually reproduce this style!! Instead the guide recommends to style it like the mail form. Improve coding for Validation
Wed, Apr 30th 2008 10:15a   David Leedy
I found myself working on a new database (opps I mean application!) tonight. I want to create a database that will replace our paper forms for Expense reporting. This application will be for the Notes Client, but once I'm happy with it then I'll web-enable it right away. Following in the footsteps of Chris Blatnick and Nathan Freeman I actually want this database to look nice. The first thing I want to talk about is required fields. Teamstudio has just released version 24 of it's tools. I don't have the complete set of tools but I do have the big 4 - Analyzer, CIAO, Delta and Configurator. This is my attempt at a blog. I hope to talk about mostly development issues from a Notes/Domino purist. What's a purist? It's someone who only gets to use Notes and a little bit of Domino. Sametime?
