Blackberry 10 – The King is Dead…Long live the King!
Tue, Feb 5th 2013 9:05p   David Vasta
Last week I was in Orlando at IBM Connect. I was able to see the new Blackberry10 get released . I was also able to play with it, touch it, and learn more about why it is the device that fits both of your worlds, fun and business. I can tell you it is a really neat device that is fast, and is a whole new way of thinking made very easy. Full disclosure : I am a Mac Users. I have a 17″ Macbook, a few iPads, and iPod, and an iPhone5. I love my Apple products. They are simple and they work. IBM Connect 2013 (Lotusphere 2013)
Sat, Feb 2nd 2013 12:02p   David Vasta
IBM Connections just wrapped up in Orlando, Florida. For the past 20 years it’s been called Lotusphere and somehow I have been able to miss all of them (sarcasm) and was able to attend the inaugural event call IBM Connect. Energy wise it is on the scale of a Mac World type event. The hype, celebrity and magic is on the same level. We have our own Steve Jobs, just not as bossy. The days are long but the week goes by so fast. The week really starts on Saturday when all the “community l [read] Keywords: administration connections ibm lotus lotusphere sametimelotus community facebook mac network twitter

Lotus Administration eBooks?
Sun, Apr 22nd 2012 6:43p   David Vasta
I was in the shower, that is where I do all of my good thinking, and I said to myself….the last great Domino Book I have is over 9 years old and a few versions back, I think version 6. It might be high time to write a new book that  people can use. The problem is if you know the book I am talking about written one Brian Benz and Rocky Oliver called the Lotus Notes and Domino 6 Programming Bible and it’s well over 1032 pages of juicy Lotus goodness. IBM OS/400 & Domino 8 Issues
Sat, Apr 7th 2012 10:44a   David Vasta
I have been fighting a problem at my current employers environment that has been hard to diagnose. The mail servers run on IBM’s Power Platform and iOS (OS/400) V5R4. The Domino version is 8.5.1 FP4. That said you would think that everything is going to be just fine. There is plenty of memory, plenty of CPU and about 1.5TB of extra disk space. Evertyhing should be perfect, but it’s not and you know this because I would not have started out by saying I was “fighting a problem [read] Keywords: administration domino ibm lotus exchange exchange server

Over the weekend my wonderful little MacBook Pro decided it was going to take a much needed vacation. Facebook says email is dead- Not so fast!

Frankly I use Facebook, but I hate Facebook. If you know me you are now confused by that statement in that I use it a lot…. It’s not something I want to exaggerate on right now. The truth of the matter is Mark Zuckberber is not claiming that Facebook Messaging will replace email as we know it. Microsoft releases largest patch ever
Tue, Oct 12th 2010 9:44p   David Vasta
LINK: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN1220677620101012 I am no fan of Microsoft. I think that is clear at this point. I honestly don’t know how a company can continue to sell good to people with this many problems. The Yugo had less problems and it did not sell that well. Funny people and CIOs tolerate it from Microsoft. But I digress. Just know it’s out there and on my Mac in which I write this blog I do not have to patch….or run anti-virus software…..or worry. Blackberry and other Mobile stuff
Sun, Oct 3rd 2010 7:16p   David Vasta
I have been talking and thinking a lot about the current landscape off offerings for mobile devices. I have been a 100% Blackberry user for the past 3 years. It’s been good and while I use my BB all I can i still long for an Android or iPhone. Recently RIM came out with a new phone the Torch. It’s nice and I am sure you have seen it. I will spare you the review of it’s features as there are hundreds of web sites out there reviewing it right now. Being a huge fan of Japan, and it’s culture, I love to include bits and pieces of it when I travel through life. So much so I have a second blog that is chronicaling my journey back to Japan. I own and have owned a rice cooker for some time. I love white sticky rice, and think it’s an essentail part of my eating at least once a week. In Japan it’s a daily occurance. Everyone has to reboot . . . Even Facebook!
Fri, Sep 24th 2010 2:25p   David Vasta
I am hard on Windows. I do not like the OS. I do not like the model they have used to move forward and the security is garbage out of the box. But that aside every OS has it flaws even UNIX and the System i. Every system has to be rebooted at times. Because OSes are written by humans and some are flawed, not me of course, then there will always be some small issue with the code. Yesterday FACEBOOK had to reboot to fix it’s issues. I did not catch the outage but I am sure some of you did. h [read] Keywords: administration lotus facebook security system i

Novell to sell off Linux to VMWare
Tue, Sep 21st 2010 9:21p   David Vasta
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703440604575496053490383496.html Seems Novell is about to sell off the Linux, SUSE, part of the company to VMWare. This is not Lotus news but it is news that may impact Lotus over time. See Domino, the Do it all Application, Mail, and Web Server, runs like a champ on SUSE Linux or SLES. Will this lead to more SLES and DOMINO on VMWare? Will IBM see this as a good thing and spend more time pushing Domino for Linux? What does this mean for Domino in a [read] Keywords: administration domino ibm lotus application linux redhat server vm vmware

Ed Brill - Not a good day for the “other guys”
Fri, Sep 17th 2010 4:40p   David Vasta
Ed has been on a roll lately. The competition seems to always have the upper hand as they deal in FUD, where Lotus and IBM don’t seem to play those games. Much like in the work of politics the person who throws the most mud gets the most exposure. With that said PCMagazine puts it out there and Ed just makes it easy to read. Thanks for the great post Ed! Lotus Notes 8.5.2 on Ubuntu (Linux)
Mon, Sep 13th 2010 8:55a   David Vasta
I am a huge fan of Linux and Ubuntu. I love using it. I will talk more later about how Lotus has complained about how much they hate Microsoft and at the same time continue to support them by only releasing the Lotus Designer and Administration tools for Windows. Michael Brown on his blog has now tested and can confim that Lotus Notes 8.5.2 runs/works on Ubuntu. LINK ::Notes 8.5.2 on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) - it works! Question of the Day - Forwarding Emails
Wed, Sep 8th 2010 4:53p   David Vasta
I answer the IT Questions from time-to-time. This one (http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/itanswers/creating-a-rule-to-forward-my-mail-to-my-gmail-account/ ) got me to thinking about security. The company I work for it is a BIG no no to forward mail outside the company. While many people will argue that it’s a pain not to be able to get their work mail all the time, you have to understand it a little better. I started working before email. Now before you date me, that was 1990. In offic [read] Keywords: administration lotus email microsoft office security

Lotus and Social Media
Tue, Sep 7th 2010 10:15a   David Vasta
At some point we have to get off our rears and start using the Internet to blog, tweet, facebook and linkedIn. I am working on some big thinking stuff and was wondering, How do you use Social Media to promote your company or project? How do you use Lotus to integrate with your social media stuff? Are you using social media inside of your company or do you all gather online in the public eye on places like Facebook and Linkedin?
